Can I rant about my mom again-accused of watching porn...

sarasarasarasara Posts: 1,561Registered Users
Ya, my new accusation is that I'm watching porn. I used my younger sister's laptop (she's 10) because mine was getting fixed. I was the "Guest" user and my sister used the other (the one with her username/not the guest one). My mom used the laptop. She (I think, she doesn't want to talk) used the one with my sister's username (the one I don't use). She went to Google and typed something, and got that (I have no idea what it is called, that bar where you type a letter and sometimes a list of what you've searched comes up). Anyway, she found porn. Which I didn't open. And I especially wouldn't be stupid enough to open on my sister's laptop. And I don't think my 10 yr old sister would use it that way. And my mom doesn't think so too. But of course she thinks I would :happy2: Because of course sarasara would do something like that :bounce:

So I tried to show her that I onlÿ use the "Guest" thing, that I'm the "Guest" user, that i don't use the personalized one my sister uses, but she doesn't want to listen.

I have no idea where those came up from. I mean, someone might have stole the IP address or something, that's the only thing I can think of. But she won't believe that. Since she doesn't want to believe I'm not stupid enough to look at porn on my younger sister's laptop she won't ebleive anything else.

:cherry:

Thanks for listening. Or reading.

I'm sorry, sara. Parents can be frustrating.

The browsers have a cache feature that uses an auto-fill software when turned on. You can turn these off as well. However in most cases I do believe it is only cached (saved) on the computer itself, not on an IP.

For your sisters protection I would delete all the history and cookies in the browser programs you are using on the computer. Both USER and GUEST profiles to be safe and an ADMIN one if there is another separate but that is probably the one with your sister's name.

It could have been your sister.

I remember when my best friend and I were 10 years old, we called those 976-sex (recorded sex talk) phone numbers and just listened and cracked up laughing. We had no idea what the hell the women were talking about, really...but we knew it was something bad. And we kept calling and calling and laughing and laughing....

    Then.

    The phone bill came.

It could have been your sister, and have been completely innocent on her part. A pop-up ad could have come up and she either clicked on it or she could have typed an address in wrong. Things like that happen.

Probably is your sister. Your mother should put a lock on those types of sites.

It sounds like your mom is chosing the least painful possibility to believe to protect herself. I don't have advice on how to deal with that.

I think she doesn't want to accept the possibility that it is your sister. It could have been intentional (who hasn't been a tiny bit curious about porn at sometime in their life?), it could have been accidental, like clicking on a pop-up or typing a website wrong. I was searching for Calvin & Hobbes comics once and found a porn site.

Don't even bring it up unless she mentions it again. Tell her how many ways porn can show up accidentally, popups, clicking the wrong site etc. Do something to block the sites.

I was searching something related to astronomy for a school project WITH my son once, and we clicked on a link and porn came up. Those porn merchants are very devious.

I agree that blocking the porn/violence sites on your sister's computer is a better option than accusing you without proof.

Yes, there are all kinds of perfectly innocent searches that can turn up a porn link. I don't think your mom should jump to a conclusion like that.

Maybe your mom was looking at the porn...and to hide her guilt she's using you as a scapegoat?

    Dunno.

Pop ups happen ALL the time, and you get porn pop ups when looking at non porn sites. There are blocking tools/parental blocks you can put on your PC to eliminate those pop ups.

Sorry you have to deal with all of that.

If you're getting pop-ups like that, are you sure that nothing was surreptitiously downloaded onto your computer? It may be that an ad-ware program is running on your computer, because most non-porn sites do not feature porn pop-ups. That's not normal at all. There are no parental controls on my laptop, and I've never have a problem with that. When we got an infestation of porn ads on our computer at home, Ad-Aware cleaned them up. You can also look around in your Program files, and see if there's anything that's obviously not supposed to be there. Don't get too trigger-happy with deleting things, but if there's something with a name like "pornbot," that's a bit of a tip off.

Sarasara, f you think that pop-up ads are to blame, do you have a program like Ad-Aware? Use it once a week, and it should remove the junk you have, and keep things clean. When it asks you to type in a registration number, just click "Cancel." They have a competitor that's called Spyware, but DO NOT use this. It intentionally skips over a lot of important things.

You can help keep adware and pop-ups off your computer in the first place by using Firefox with the add-ons Noscript, Adblock Plus, Filterset.G, and the first two of Rick's filtersets.

    Thanks everyone.

I don't know if it was a pop-up. My mom said she went to Google and typed in something, and from the drop down bar it showed that someone searched porn. Do pop-ups do that? Plus, porn sites are blocked here, so it's not easy to find porn sites actually showing porn. Or maybe its easy, but I really have no idea. My mom just doesn't want to listen and keeps endin or conversatios with "just don't do that again." She's pretending to be nice to me now.

Ugh - I haven't had this exact problem happen to me (and about that problem, if it's actually something like a google search of "porn", it seems like something immature that a ten year old would do, IMO. Like teehee, bad word, I'm gonna search it now), but I can definitely relate to that "see? I'm the good cop now. Just admit your crime" tactic. It sucks, but hang in there - right now her mind's jumping to conclusions so quickly there's no energy left to supply her ears. What is your sister's involvement in this right now? Have you spoken with her about it? Does she know what your mom's accusing you of?
    OMG, LOOK!!

    ...It's a siggie.

I spoke to my sister about it. She seemed to be honest about it when she sai she didn't do it. Plus, all of us use the internet in the living room, so people are always around seeing what everyone is doing. She does use it when she's home alone too though.

Porn is blocked by the government. My mom said she saw videos on Google. Or I'm really not sure. She wasn't very clear. What's pissing me off is that she might have told other people. A mom spreading rumors about her own daughter :happy2:

Could she have been on this site or another similar one and seen something that someone posted that was NSFW or adult?

I would stop caring at this point. You told her you didn't do it, she doesn't believe you. Oh well. Short of going on the Maury show and hooking yourself up to a lie-detector, there's nothing else you can do.

No, I don't think so. I guess it's like what Bianca said, there's nothing to do. She probably doesn't trust me more now, but she never did. Not much difference I guess. I've always had those weird things happen to me, such as random people who work in restaurants asking me how my boyfriend is in front of her, although I've never had one. I should get used to this. I wonder what's next :happy2:

When I type in my google search window, it automatically makes suggestions based on popular searches. These aren't things I've actually searched for, but are just filled in by Google. Maybe your mom saw something like that? Unfortunately, porn is a really popular search. Probably the most popular

Aww poor sarasara, damned if you do, damned if you don't. Keep checking on those international schools. Maybe they'll get so fed up with your "bad behavior" they'll make you leave

    I misunderstood.

If you have the "auto-fill" feature enabled, and you type something in any search bar, it will show a drop down of searched items that are close to what you typed. If you did a search yesterday for "dog food" and today you're searching for "dog toys" as soon as you type the word "dog" then the dog food search will appear in the drop down.

Since your mom isn't listening to your suggestions, at this point I would also just drop it and try not to worry about it.
