HESMU is So Not for Me

So, after reading a lot about HESMU and needing something new I picked some of this stuff up at Walgreen's. I am completely disappointed. At first, I used just a little bit and my hair looked horrific. We're talking no curl and just a mountain of frizz resembling straw. I decided to give it a second go round and used a lot more and my hair did look good, but it felt like straw even after I scrunched all the crunch out.

I co-washed followed with AOHR, which I also use as a leave-in. Then I followed with the HESMU. I did not plop and just used a tee-shirt to scrunch the gel it and then I let dry completely (we're talking hours here) before scrunching. Like I said, hair looked good but felt really bad -- scary bad.

How does this work for everyone else? What do you guys use it with? Do you get crunch that won't scrunch out?
3B with some 3a. Fell off but am now back on the CG bandwagon and looking for my HG products.

Sorry, I cannot help you here. I have tried this gel as well, and I must say that it is not working for me. I have also tried the Totally Twisted as well. I am on the fence with that one. It does not seem to have enough hold when used alone. But what bothers me about them is their lack of moisturizing effects. They both left my hair quite frizzy and ill defined curls. And my hair felt more parched too after it dried.

So, I am not going to try to make these work alone. I may combine them with other gels in order to get through the tubes I have left of them....3 left. Or if someone comes over, I will try to unload it on them.

Some of the other curlies with your curl type use the Aura Hypo...gel and the Biotera Styling Gel and seem to love both. So, you may give those a try. I haven't really heard anything bad about them. Although for my hair, it left it flaky. So, it was a bit drying to me.

I really love the [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Kinky-Curly-Curling-Custard-p-778.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=kinkycurly-curling-custard]KCCC[/buylink]. And a lot of curlies with your type also like that one too! You will find a few threads about that!

I used it yesterday with [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Jessicurl-Weekly-Deep-Conditioning-Treatment-p-106.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=jessicurl-weekly-deep-conditioner-treatment]Jessicurl's WDT[/buylink] as my leave in and my hair felt and looked great. I had good curl definition, hardly any frizz at all and my hair felt touchably soft all day. This morning I used Body Envy instead and the results are also good but I think I like HESMU better. With both I was able to easily scrunch out the crunch.

I've had good and bad days with HESMU. Bad days consistute stringy curls that won't soften up, even after I've scrunched. I think I'll end up using the last of my tube layered over my pink Boots, since that seems to help with the crunch. I probably won't repurchase.

I so wanted to try [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Kinky-Curly-Curling-Custard-p-778.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=kinkycurly-curling-custard]KCCC[/buylink], Nikki, but it was out and then I ordered a bunch of other stuff and then remembered that stuff, but I had aleady purchased 4 hair products and 2 hair toys, so I figured I could not explain that to my DH who already thinks I have a conditioner obcession! :laughing9: Next time though both KT and [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Kinky-Curly-Curling-Custard-p-778.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=kinkycurly-curling-custard]KCCC[/buylink] are on my list!

One of the thing I did order though is the WDT, so I might try that with the HESMU.

I know how that is as well! I do the same thing. And there is a thread going on about the WDT that you just got!

I had the same results as you. I wanted this stuff to work so bad cuz it's so cheap and I liked the smell. But my hair looked worse than if I had used no product at all.

That is how I felt. It seemed as if I had just let my hair dry naturally without product. Uh no! Although they were cheap, I was still disappointed at wasting my money on them.

The bolded describes exactly how my hair feels with aloe vera gel!:( AO Mandarin Magic Jelly is giving me the same dry, frizzy feeling as well (it has an AV gel base). But the HE SMU works for me, strangely enough. It's a little crunchier than I'd like, but if I mix it with a creamy leave-in, it softens it right up.

Oh, this gel was SO bad for my hair. It looked all dry and stringy while it was drying, and when I scrunched out the crunch it was just completely undefined and poofy. I tried all three of the HE gels and unfortunately none of them worked well for me.
