Suave Tropical Coconut

Wow, so this one seems to have phased out of the board discussions ever since the first reformulation, but I've been using that formulation (and not the brand-spanking-new one) recently and love it. Compared to my VO5 Vanilla Mint Tea, it leaves my hair incredibly soft and awesome-feeling. The VO5 always left my hair feeling like something was sitting on it, and maybe that's the vanilla plant wax that teshon pointed out recently, but all I know is that I'm dumping it because the Suave Coconut works so much better for me.

Juuust felt like sharing. (:

Are you using this as your main condish or for a cowash?

    BTW, your hair is gorgeous!!

Co-wash, but it seems to feel pretty moisturizing. I may try it on days I feel I don't need so much moisture from my AOHR.

I prefer using the VO5 but can't because of the proteins or some horrible ingredient like vanilla plant wax in their formulas. For me there is less research with Suave and also White Rain. The ingredients is pretty straight forward. No hidden protein monsters. Suave is great! A thick, moisturizing conditioner for the price. In order to not have to use a different rinse-out condish after this one I add oil and honey. This is really the only Suave conditioner I still use every once and a while. It is classic and the fragrance is nice and not overwhelming like some of the others can be.
3c-4a; Protein Sensitive(forms of wheat, keratin, soy and anything "hydrolyzed"). My hair hates coconut oil and jojoba oil(sometimes).

And it's like the only one (of the Suave condishes) drug stores ever stock. (:

Besides like, ocean breeze... and frankly, I don't want to smell that in my shower!

Oh, I am totally w/ you on this Mystery! The new formula of Suave Coconut is currently rocking my world! And like you, I have ditched the VO5 in favor of this.

It makes me absurdly happy to fall in love with a product that costs a dollar!!!

Edit to say duh. Read your original post wrong, you aren't using the new version of this!

I just tried this yesterday and it's great!:toothy7:

My hair was acting funny before (rough, frizzy, not as shiny as I'd like) even though I was using [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Jessicurl-Too-Shea-Extra-Moisturizing-Conditioner-p-105.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=jessicurl-too-shea-extra-moisturizing-conditioner]Too Shea[/buylink]!. Then I had the idea that maybe my hair needed some protein (I have been avoiding it for a while). I was pleasantly surprised that the silk amino acids didn't hurt my hair at all. In fact, my hair feels softer and shinier with just a bit of frizz. Another bonus is the heavenly scent. :angel8:

BTW, I used it as a condish, left a bit in, and used got2b spiked up gel over it.

Where can I find the ingredient lists of the reformulations? I'm curious about which one mine is. TIA!

I think a telling difference is that the new formulation doesn't list fragrance as like the 3rd-5th ingredient, if at all.

This has been my staple co-wash conditioner for years. I like that it is not too thick so that I can get it through my hair quickly. It also smells great! For the price, I don't have to worry about how much I use. It also detangles really well.

Does anyone use it for their main conditioner? I would love to have a cheap moisturizing conditioner.
  • Aries_jbAries_jb Posts: 1,556Registered Users
I use to use it as my main CO. I found it had the perfect amount of moisture for me. However, I found I need something that detangles a little better. If you don't have an issue with tangles, then it's great.

This has been my main conditioner for years (and I also shave with it so I buy a lot of it). Just bought 2 bottles today and the ingredients seem to be a blend of the 2 formulas Lazy Loops listed above.

Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E Acetate), Silk Amino Acids, Honey, Urtica Dioica (Nettle) Extract, Rosemarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Extract, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Extract

    jeep,

Thanks for bringing that to my attention, I pulled the "old" from the CurlProducts reviews page so I wonder if that was the first, original formula instead of the 1st reformulation?

Or maybe I forgot to put "fragrance" in the one I pulled from the Suave website? :? Be right back!

ETA1: OK, I got the list correct, from Suave. I'm going to go to the main board to look for the thread Laurabeth started about this, in the fall I believe. Again, be right back!

I use Suave Coconut, but never realized that there was a whole old formula/new formula discussion.

I do love the (new) Suave, it has been my mainstay for awhile.

Before I started coloring, it worked perfectly as a CO-wash, CO and leave in. After I started coloring, I decided I needed more moisture, and it wasn't quite doing it for me, so I started using Deva One as my CO-wash and CO, but a combo of Deva and Suave as my leave in.

If I don't need a lot of hold that day, I can just let my hair dry with the leave in combo, no additional stylers necessary. The slip of the Suave detangles my hair and gives it such a nice clumping/definition while wet, my hair always looks just right immediately after showering with the Suave in. In fact, if I do add ReCoil, I try hard not to disturb the curl formation that the Suave provides.

Did I mention that I love it?
3A - fine, just above shoulder length, w/red color and highlights.

Product: Suave Coconut leave in, Joico Joiwhip mousse, Angell or F/X Curl booster on wet hair. Sometimes rotate in ReCoil/CK.

Routine: Scrunch with cloth diapers, then use Shellynot's clipping method. Diffuse a bit without touching hair. Leave clips in at least half and hour. Remove clips and air dry.

    Day 2: Pineapple, no product.

DT once a week with DevaCare OneC

I keep an emergency bottle of this in my bathroom closet myself. And I have clients who absolutely will not buy salon products and will only buy drugstore stuff ... this is the only thing for cleansing/conditioning that I'll recommend to them. It's not Deva, but it's a mighty fine pitch-hitter, especially for the price.

on the new and old formula? Do they still moisturize and provide the same results?

More importantly are the ingredients ok for CG? I don't really understand the ingredients.

I 'bought' this today. Just got up to check the ingredients for this thread and realized I got the shampoo by mistake! And it has ALS in it... good thing I didn't put it all over my hair! Will let you know how it works for me after returning the poo...
