My hair changes pattern from crown to tip

Does anyone else have that?

I would describe my hair as 3c at the nape, 4a in the middle and 4b in the front. But from the crown to tip, my hair progresses from wavy to curly. I have been natural for almost 4 years so I know all the relaxed or processed ends are gone.

I can't figure out if the waves are just weighed down curls or what. The curls look cute, especially in puffs, but they are the reason my hair tangles so quickly (the waves clump in different groups than the curls).

Does anyone else have this problem? Is there a solution?

Thanks!

LOL, I feel you! Look at my pics

The front is loose and wavy, the crown is sort of straight-ish and the nape and back are kinky.

My hair is crazy but I love it. I've learned tricks of the trades for helping it to blend in (i.e.rake and smooth works like a charm  ).

I'm only 6 mos into my transition. I can't help you out any but my crown is tightly curled. The front of my hair line is tightly curled. Between my crown and hair line is small waves and behind my crown is bigger waves. I would love it if all of it curls after I get the BC.

My hair is tight 4a coils on the sides and back, looser softer 4a coils at the nape, wavy 4a in front, 4b at the crown, and a little bit of silky 3c strands scattered across the top and front. I don't try to get it to look uniform, I just let it do it's thing :hippy2:

My hair is for the most part 4a/4b - Pins springs and kinks on the sides, cork screws curls in the back, slightly looser coil curls on the top/crown and a few fly away straight hairs that won't curl or kink no matter what (kinda like fur) and no matter how much product I use or how much I dt I have 4 distinctively different textures. I just roll with it :afro:

My hair can change texture in the strand - some are more crinkly at the root, others are straighter at the root

^^^ that is the point that I was trying to make EXACTLY.

I have learned to deal with the different types of hair spread out on my head, but how is it different within the same STRAND.

How bizarre. But you said exactly what I wanted to say in the OP.

Does that mean anything? Is it a moisture thing?

For me, I think it's just part of being 4a

My hair is between 3c/4a and it curls very nicely, BUT in the front.... I'd say 1 inch of hair in the exact front... OMG it just sits there limp. It doesn't curl. Its nott kinky. Its certainly not cute nor does it have any personality. Its just a big ball of frizz that does absolutely nothing. I have a picture of it in my Fotki LOL I don't have any magic tricks up my sleeve yet but I'm trying

You're definitely not alone. I feel you SBB, it is strange how that can happen, but I know that it does change textures in the same strand. I have so that as well in some areas.

The sides of my hair is the worse as far as curl pattern, it is more 4A s-curls and fuzzy. The crown is 4A as well, but more kinky and does not really curls, but is wavy. The front is 3C and is s-curls with corkscrews at the ends of the curls. The nape is 3B corkscrews with random 3C coils.

I would love for it to either be all coils or all corkscrews and either all 3C or 4A. I can deal with the s-curls, coils, and corkscrews. But I am not feeling those waves at all. Sorry, but I am not too fond of wavy on me. Give me the curls girls!!

So trust me, you're not the only one dealing with 15 personalities of curls on one head.
