Added new pics to my album (updated with a few more)

Hey curlies,
I posted this on the general hair board, but thought I would through it up here as well. I added a few pics to my album. I'm experimenting with a product called Liv for slicking my hair back into buns and braids. It's a super thick (reeeaaalllly thick) moisturizing cream that I applied to wet hair. I also included some pics of one of the few occasions when I had 2nd day hair. I shingled with Herbal Essences Humidity Defying gel, then went out to dinner and a few bars with my friends. I couldn't believe that my hair still looked decent after the humidity, heat, smoke, and sleeping. I'm also going to add a few old hair pics later on tonight of when my hair was short.

Great photos. Really nice hair. Did you use the HE gel alone without a leave in? Is the Liv thicker than Fantasia IC?

Thanks for the nice replies! I used the Herbal Essences gel alone, on freshly washed and conditioned hair. I don't usually leave any in because regular conditioner leaves a film on my hair and makes my hair stay wet for ages. I will start layering a light spray leave-in under the gel, though, since I want a bit more moisture and protection.

You and your hair are beautiful.

I could kick myself...I almost picked up the HE gel today, but didn't think it work for our hair.

Liv is a product I haven't used in years. My grandma used it. It's old school and used to be one of my fav's. I didn't even realize they still sold it. I will look for it and give it a try again. My hair could certainly use the moisture.

BTW: someone asked if it is thicker than IC - Liv is really thick but creamy

I agree with everyone here.....very pretty. :) And I'm thinking about trying Liv, if I can find it out here.
A wonderful mix of coils, curls, corkscrews, and kinks.

HE humdity defying gel is the ish. I've tried to get some people using it. It's the best gel I've tried so far and it really does hold up. The consistency is a bit weird though. It reminds me of melted hard candy or something, but it's still great. Congrats with your results and your album is great :)

Nice lookin' hair (and nice lookin' man, might I add).

Hey I called your hair stylist in Evanston and left a message about booking an appointment and they never called me back! Do you still go there? Are they worth me trying again?

L'n-z, that's so odd that they didn't call you back. I've gotten calls when they see my number on the caller id without having left a message. I would definitely try them again. Say that you want to schedule a haircut with Jarmen (the owner). Of course, if they keep acting iffy with the customer service, then don't give them your business. If you do go, though, make sure to tell Jarmen that I recommended her! :)

Now, as for the question about the thickness of Liv, let me just say that it's REALLY thick. It's a thick, greasy cream. These days, I'd rather slick my hair back with something moisturizing than a gel.

Portae, you and your boyfriend make a cute couple!
I really like the slicked back look - very elegant. Beautiful pics!

I saw this thread on the general hair board and added a reply to it. I just wanted to say again your hair is very pretty and you are beautiful! Curly hair is very becoming on you! 8)

I broke down and purchased Summit Liv. I'm going to try it this week sometime. I'm still using my MOP leave-in, coconut oil, and Herbal Essence Gel together for glorious results. I'm going to try Frizz-ease extra strength serum, Neutrogena Triple-moisture leave-in, and Herbal Essence gel next - the product junkie in me just WON'T die..lol

I'm glad you are loving that Herbal Essence gel. It is my favorite gel hands down!

Isn't that gel wonderful? I read about it in Laurabeth33's thread on drugstore gels and decided to give it a go. I am SO glad I did. I'm going to start purchasing the gel by the case load..lol. I already have 3 in my cabinet. It is wonderful and it doesn't try my hair out! I also love the price and the fact that I can buy it anywhere woohoo!

Live is thick like Crisco. I know that doesn't sound good but I know a lot of mothers who use this on SUPER dry hair and it works wonders. I never thought to use it on my hair. I may have to give it a try now.

I think you're beautiful and your hair is gorgeous. It's very similar to mine. I will post pics soon. I already have old ones posted.
Where can I purchase the Liv by summit creme. What stores carry it?
    I'm 3b-4a- think Tracee Ross
I use smoothing shampoo, followed by Garnier deep conditioning treatment or B&B conditioner as a detangler. Then use Elucence as a leave in conditioner

You can find Liv at some drugstores and most black beauty supply stores. It can also be found at Sally's Beauty.

I've been experimenting over the past few days, and I added a few new pics to my album.

One day, I tried a routine which I've now named the "Doing Everything Wrong" routine. I washed and conditioned my hair as usual, then wrapped a towel around my hair while I got dressed. I usually apply gel to soaking wet hair, but this time I let it dry until it was just barely damp. then I separated my hair into 4 sections, sprayed each with leave in, then COMBED each section. Each section looked like a stretched out fuzzy mass with no definition. After the combout, I applied my Herbal Essences gel to each section-raking, squeezing, and smoothing it through each of the 4 sections. The gel magically glued the locks back together to form clumps of curls. Once I was done, I gave my hair a gentle shake and blended any sections that were still separate. Surprisingly, my hair stayed defined and it dried in record time. Later that evening, I used a blowdryer with a diffuser to stretch out my roots and the length.

On another day, I blowdried a section of my hair with a pic attachment and then flatironed it. Then I applied some Liv and twisted sections into bantu knots. I left them in for a bit, then took them down and combed them into pretty waves. I may do this look on my entire head the next time I get an urge to straighten.

Thank you, I'll check it out. Is that a denman D4 in your picture?

That is a Denman in my picture. I use it to smooth my hair back into a bun or braid. Unlike some of the other curlies on this board, I can't use it to apply my products.
