Second Day Hair & New Products I am loving

SystemSystem Posts: 39,059 Administrator
Have I told you all how much I love all of your help? Well, I do and thank you.

I can not believe how much better my hair is looking; and, how much better I feel about myself now. That is a priceless gift, and, I am so grateful. :kisses:kisses.gif

Someone recommended that I try [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/AG-Recoil-p-24.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=ag-hair-cosmetics-recoil-curl-activator]re:coil[/buylink] with Angell. I tried it over the weekend; and, my hair looked really good. To better apply [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/AG-Recoil-p-24.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=ag-hair-cosmetics-recoil-curl-activator]re:coil[/buylink] I mixed it with LLL coco light and scrunched into my hair. I then plopped for 20 minutes and then scrunched in Angell. (sometimes diffuse sometimes no) My hair really seems to like a little product when it is dry so I scrunched in a little bit of ORS Lock & Twist mixed with a little LLL coco light again. My hair loved this product combonation. Pics are in my album if you would like to see the results. :D

With these products, I have acheived second day hair. I just sprayed a little Mister Right on and scrunched in a little ORS Lock & Twist. Can you believe that!? Pics are in my album on the second page. Also, please notice the corkscrew in the back. Those are starting to pop up in my previously not that wavy spots. I am so excited :hyper:hyper.gif

Now, I have put myself in PJ jail since I have found some wonderful products. But, I still have a few on the way; and, I do not consider swapping to be off limits  I still have Ava's combo on the way. I couldn't find it anywhere and decided to use my drugstore.com credit to order that; and, I just got a curlmart order yesterday so I will have to try that stuff out too :P

YAY! :dance:dance.gif I found out that I can pineapple! Kim, you were such a help to me when I came onto this site.

I'm still trying to figure out what my hair actually needs.
My hair is a mix of 2b/3a and even a bit of 3b thrown in! I would call my hair wavycelli. It curls most when I leave it alone after wet scrunching. My hair has a spring factor of about 2 or 3 inches and has a very silky, medium texture.

Your hair is looking awesome! Talk to me about LLL Coco light....is this a leave-in? That's what I'm guessing from the description. It sounds pretty nice. :)
2b/3a, primarily use Jessicurl and DevaCurl products, Curls Hair Tea conditioner and various gels. I'm modified CG-ish since 5/04.

Thank you all for your kind replies. :D

lcaste1 - Now, that you mention it, it was your recommendation that led me to my new combo. Thank you :Kissing2:kissing2smilie.php

kimmyc - I use it as an additional leave-in; I also leave a little EMB in when I rinse with this new combo. My hair absolutely loves LLL Coco Light. It is also the perfect consistency for thinning [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/AG-Recoil-p-24.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=ag-hair-cosmetics-recoil-curl-activator]re:coil[/buylink] to make it easy to distribute. 8)

cunninghamair - It has been almost two months. Wow, time flies when you are having fun  (And buying products  )

Dancingbadger - I am so happy that you can pineapple now. :D We will help you figure out what your hair needs, it just takes time. And, I am glad that I was help to somebody

skywatcher - As always thank you :kisses:kisses.gif

kjwavy - Welcome to PJ jail; you can join skywatcher and I there. We do have one rule: Swaps are okay

Kimberly, your hair looks awesome :dance:dance.gif ! Love the second day hair pics. Your hair has become amazing since before finding nc.com.

I almost could have had second day hair today if I'd played around with it. But, being Saturday, it was experiment day  . I wanted to try plopping again and I SO want to like Aura Hypo-allergenic gel. I still can't get the root lift on the top of my head like most people can from plopping. I did upload some new pics of various products from experiments during the week.

    Again, you're hair looks wonderful!

Well, thank you :D I just looked at your updated pictures and your hair looks wonderul :!: Isn't it always the day you are dying to try new things that your hair looks good when you wake up :P That is how it works for me  I really like Abba weightless gel for root lift. Have you tried that? Sorry, if I should know this answer, but, I am forgetful

Why, why yes, Kimberly you should know the answer to the ABBA question .. I mean, there's only 50 other people for you to keep up with ... sheesh   (I put two laughing emoticons just in case you can't see them!!)

I have used ABBA and love the lift. I think I've discovered part of the problem at my crown area .. I think my hair tends to dry forward as I'm diffusing upside down. Does that make sense? I'm thinking I should diffuse just a minute or two upside down, then right side up and tilt my head back. I've also used my other hair dryer with the sock diffuser over it and aimed it at the roots. Alot of time I get great lift, it's just my hair is still thin enough to see right through to my scalp. You can't see it as much in the pics as in real life.

Oh, and the reason I don't think I can get lift with plopping is with my hair being layered, the hair in back isn't long enough to create a kind of "cushion" for the hair on top of my head. Does that make any sense :? ?

Thanks for the ABBA rec, though :D .

I wish our avatars would come back!!

I try to keep a little better product use tally in my head of my fellow 2bers

Completely makes sense about diffusing. My hair dries kind of weird when I diffuse too; so, I have to make sure I only do the roots. I use the cool setting upside down for about 2-5 minutes. Then I tip my head to each side and back and do the same thing. Try that and it might work for you too. :D When I use the hot sox I get major frizz. :(

I had serious problems with plopping for awhile too; and, then I created my own version. I follow the twisting instructions but then I cross in front and wrap around and that has helped with the smooshed crown. I never have quite understood the great lift from plopping. It really only helps my curl formation and keeps it out of my way for a little while. I now diffuse as I described above after plopping. Maybe you could try this method of plopping and have better results; but, if it doesn't work for you don't try to make it work :D

Looks like we have this forum all to ourselves

I know and I haven't seen kjwavy in a few days .. hope she's okay. She was waiting on tests results.

Yep, I agree with not understanding lift from plopping. I tried it this morning just for 15 minutes or so. Like you, I get good curl formation, but the front and top of my hair is just too smooshed. I bought me a little round brush today and figure I might do what some people call the 80's look .. kinda straight on top w/bangs and curly everywhere else.

Sounds like we diffuse the same way, too. I do the upside down thing, then side to side only I diffuse to about 80% or so. Then I try not to touch until I'm done putting on my makeup  .

Sorry to invade your board but I wanted to mention the combo I used last night. I have the most amazing 2nd day hair today! I was lazy last night and didn't feel like condishing or rewetting my entire head so I sprayed lavendar mist on my hair until it was pretty damp then scrunched in a quarter size amount of CK while my head was flipped over. My hair today is incredible. I got a compliment as soon as I stepped in the door at work and its 95 degrees out! I think the combo seemed to reactivate my curls because my hair is curlier today than it was yesterday! :D Just thought I'd post this incase anyone is looking for a good second day hair routine.

awww thanks for the compliments kimberly and lcaste!

Kim, I have tried creams in my hair and never quite got it right. I just love that natural look that you are getting with your cream/angell combo...I might have to try out creams with angell one of these days! You have inspired me to do this (and to finally purchase angell)! I think it might just work.

Do you get crunch with this combo? I'm just wondering because you have two creams in there, so maybe this softens the gel a bit? Just curious cause I don't really like to scrunch out the crunch of gels... :o

    Lcaste, I pm'd you!

First of all let me say that I can not believe that I am giving you hair advice   Your hair is gorgeous, but, if I can help make it be even more gorgeous let me try

I hate crunch too! But, I do not get any crunch with this combo at all. I have also been rotating Angell with Back to Nature Rosemary Mint Clean gel for the past week in this combo and getting just as good results. I orderd mine before the curlmart sale, but, I plan on oredering again this month because it is 50% off! I tried cream before too with blah results. I actually swapped one [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/AG-Recoil-p-24.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=ag-hair-cosmetics-recoil-curl-activator]re:coil[/buylink] away. :( The trick for me with [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/AG-Recoil-p-24.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=ag-hair-cosmetics-recoil-curl-activator]re:coil[/buylink] is to mix it with coco light to be able to distribute it easier. Coco light is really more of a oily/watering consistency; and, gives me great moisture so it is perfect to mix with [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/AG-Recoil-p-24.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=ag-hair-cosmetics-recoil-curl-activator]re:coil[/buylink]. :D

 You're so cwazy Kim! I mean that in a good way of course! YOU have such beautiful hair with perfect lil waves (you have to REALLY believe this) and you're so sweet in helping me!

I am going through this crazy experimentation phase (thanks to NC.com!  ) to try and get different looks. I don't know why either, cause my routine works for me, but it is just so much fun to play with products!!!! (is this the beginning of PJism???)

I haven't mastered the natural look yet and if I could make a combo where I just have to put some products in my hair, let them air dry and no need to scrunch out any crunch...that would be my perfect routine! 8) Maybe I will stop playing with my products then....but maybe not... !

Hey, have you been talking to my DH about the cwazy thing!? That is exactly how he says it to me too  And, my pleaure on the help. Goodness knows I have gotten wonderful help from everyone here too :D

You are most definately in the begining stage of PJism. I am still trying all sorts of things even though I have found a perfect combo for my hair. But, hey, I could always found a " more perfecter" combo, right!?

As far as my hair goes, I know it looks awesome for my hair, I just have unrealistic expectations. I want curly hair; and, I am still making friends with my: "somewhere between straight and curly hair on the isle of indecision" hair

Well said! that's what we all dream about... a 'perfecter combo' ! Hey, we are at least positive thinkers though!

If I'm really in the first stage of PJism.... :sad:sad20gif ...I don't want to admit it! I'm still trying to fight it! There are so many things I would like to try though...oh the possibilities! I'll lose the battle sooner or later though. :?

About hair, I think every type is so beautiful and they can't be compared to one another. I was taught to love my curly hair since I was a lil child. For me, my curly hair is kind of a family legacy so maybe that is why I love mine so much, it means so much to me. My great grandma passed it on to my grandma, then my mom got it, then me. I love my grandma's hair, she has long silver curls. I want to have hair like hers when I get old!
That's so funny that ur DH says cwazy too...hehhhehe.

Ah, denial :P It worked for me until I had to clean my closet out

I think you are so lucky to have family legacy hair. I *think* my gramma could have had wavy hair upon reflection, but, she set it so I am guessing, and, have no way to find out now. :? It is funny though because I am the only one in my family with hair like this so it took me years to figure out that I couldn't treat my hair like it was straight. I was 32 when I figured it out and this was two months ago  The funny thing is that in my house DD and I are wavies, DH is a curly (not sure what yet, his hair is still too short, but, he is actually loving his curls since I have been helping him. He wishes he had this info in high school so he didn't have to buzz cut  ) DS is the odd one out with poker straight hair that is so thick clippers get stuck in it :!:

Kim, now that I read my previous post it sounds kind of funny, but I knew what I was talking about when I wrote it and I presumed you would easily understand me! :? ! Silly me! I think you got the gist of it but what I was trying to say about family legacy is that only one person in my family gets the curly hair. It's been like that from generation to generation since my greatgrandma (well, that I know of). Weird huh? I am the only curly haired child my mom had! My lil sister has super straight hair just like your sister.

I wish I had a picture of my grandma's hair...I have to take one of it someday. She has such great hair and my grandad loves it! He loves it that she keeps it long, and she does so for him. She's 80 something and she still up and around. She is super grandma. Can you tell I love the women in my family? They're my role models. I am getting sad just typing this because I miss them all, they are all so far away...

That is so cool that you have learned to manage your hair now! It's never too late! I can see now why you have such like/dislike relationship for your hair! You are just learning to love it and understand it! Your hair is beautiful and I'm glad that you are starting the process of embracing it. 8) !

Sorry, did you notice in my pictures that I am blond?

That is so neat that you were the chosen one who got the curly hair! That makes it so special. And, I completely understand, my Gramma is my role model too. She passed away last year at 90. She was super Gramma too up until the last year. We were on vacation together last July and she actually asked my permission to let go. I told her that she had given us all more than we could have ever hoped for and that we wanted her to be at peace. She passed away two months later. I still find myself talking to her. It is hard for me to be really sad about her passing because what I said above is true. I feel so blessed to have had her for 31 years. Who could ask for me than that!? :D

My hair has been an issue for me for so long because I always treated it like it was straight. I would try "curly" products, but, the wrong ones. I just didn't know any better. I spent so much of my life trying to tame what I thought was big hair. Turns out it was just really wavy, but, made at me  Now, I am so happy to have found NC.com. No more straightening for me, ever! :D

The good news is DD has wavy hair and she will never go through what I went through. She poos once a week and uses a leave-in already. For second day hair we just smooth a little of my gel over her canopy and she is ready to go. :D
