Uneven hair color

I color my hair red. Kind of an auburn red. MY natural color is chesnut brown and there is some grey. Lately I have noticed a lot of strands of hair are dark while other parts are very red. But there are a lot of places that just dont seem to be taking the red dye. Is that normal because of my curls? My curls are not that tight and are baby fine. I did chemically straighten my hair twice but that was over a year ago. And it has been cut quite frequently since then so I dont think any chemicals are still in it.

What brand is the color? Does it have peroxide and/or ammonia for lift? It may not be lifting your natural brown (staying darker), and the gray may not be taking the color well (staying lighter). Just some thoughts.
