I want to grow it very long but....any idea faster growth?

Last time I had my hair straightened was july (and only the second time) I've always tried to grow it out long. i want it pretty darn long. Now it's a mixture of stringy curls and straight locks. The only think is when it starts growing longer (it's mid back now) I don't want to cut any of it off. I hated it before. it was thick and heavy and weighed me down.

to get my hair nice do you think i'll have to cut it??? also, how can i make it grow faster?

yep i think you should go with a cut and then let it grow out.don't straighten it while your growing out your cut.

Once I cut my hair it and got rid of the split ends my hair just grew like crazy. I did the big chop in September because I felt that transitioning too long would hinder the growth. Its only been 1 1/2 months so I can't say whether it worked or not.

Trust me I wish my hair was down to my bra strap. It drives me crazy to know that its going to take about a year to get it to shoulder length. Probably 2 yrs to bra strap length.

I am having the same issues... when I relaxed my hair it would grow so fast and in a year my hair would be way below the bra strap. I mean, I've had longer hair when it was treated by my hair dresser. Now that I live so far away from her and after going natural it has resulted in bad hair day everyday since I made the decision two years ago. Was happy and excited at first but now too frustrated sometimes I feel like chopping it all off or just go back and have it relaxed again. :?

I feel your frustration! I was in your shoes 4 years ago!
I agree with the above posters. Let it grow just a bit and
chop off the relaxed hair. I waited till it was just below
my ears before I chopped it all off. Took good care of
my hair and did lots of DT. It is growing so much right
now. Wet it's almost waist length! Hang in there!
    You can do it!

Jeannie_L, I felt the same way at the beginning.
Remember that your hair is growing but, you can't
probably can't see it due to the shrinkage. Don't chop
it off. I saw your album and I can see pretty waves
    and curls!

Never mind, I just noticed your November picture. Your hair is GORGEOUS! :-) I can hardly wait to have long hair.

By the way, Shadesome, I can't really tell you what grows hair really long but I can tell you what can make it stop growing:

    1. Applying to much heat using curling irons and flatirons. This causes split ends.
    2. Combing your natural hair dry or without conditioner.
    3. Putting too many chemicals in it. I thought only relaxers were damaging, but I found out that dying my hair black or blonde was just as bad.
    4. Going to bed without some type of protective style
    5. Letting the hairdresser blow dry it to death

These are just a few things I could think of. I've already tried MSM pills, putting monistat 7 (yes you read right) on my scalp, taking vitamins, using all types of crazy oils, stinky mayonaisse... I can't say these things didn't work, but it gets tiring after a while. The only things that make my hair look decent while its growing is rollersetting, deep conditioning once a week, and Aphogee protein treatments once a month.

Thanks Maya. I guess its a matter of getting used to it. If I could only find a better way to style it while it is looking so short. I dont know you guys but when I look at pictures where my hair is nice and straight and then compare I think it looks better than my natural curls. But I wont stop the transition yet...my hair is all natural now and will hate myself after all this work.
