I've been growing out my hair since last Feb. It was an inch above my shoulders, and my goal is mid-back length. I've almost always had long hair, and think I look best with my hair at least below my shoulders. I'd gotten it cut in Feb. on a whim - I worked in a stressful environment and thought a shorter cut would be easier to manage. I regret it (and it's not easier to manage!), and have been growing it for months. It is finally only a couple inches from my goal length. I haven't had any inkling at all to go short again - I've just done routine trims - until today. Suddenly, I got a strong desire to chop off my hair. I think it is because right before a storm, I get awful headaches. When my hair is pulled back, it worsens them. I undid my hair, but still have been headachy on and off.

WHen I feel badly I don't want to mess with my hair, but usually don't have the urge to cut it. Today, though, I've been wondering, hmm maybe I should cut my hair. I've also been admiring women's styles on TV. This is crazy - I've been growing out my hair for almost a year, and now I'm suddenly wanting to cut it. I really hope this passes soon! Does anyone else go through months of growing out only to get the urge to cut again? I have to remember that my hair is harder to style when it's shorter, and doesn't suit me very well. Yes, I will keep telling myself that, and hopefully, I will be back to my old midback hair wannabe self by tomorrow! :cherry:

Yay, I'm glad I'm not the only one. :) I'm getting all psychological tryin to figure out why I feel this way. Often, women will cut their hair after going through traumatic events. I haven't gone through any lately. My head wouldn't have felt any better had I had shorter hair pulled back (I wore my hair back a lot too when it was above my shoulders). Though, when I took it down it kept getting in my face, and was poofy from the humidity with ponytail lines. Somehow, when my hair is shorter and looks bad it doesn't bother me as much as when it's long and looks bad. I also noticed how much longer it takes to blowdry long hair than short when I usually don't care. I hope that a haircut isn't the only cure to this mental illness. :albino:

Sometimes it may help to have your bangs trimmed or get a few long layers or even a mini-trim all over from a stylist you trust. It'll change your curls and style but you won't lose much overall length. Or even a temp hair color change.

I've been bad about cut now, regret later. :D

That's what I did! :sad2: I was feeling really bored with my hair, was in a bad mood. I should've waited it out. I had several inches taken off. She just kept cutting and cutting - I didn't think she'd ever stop! I had her keep it just long enough so that I could pull it back if I wanted. I guess I'm just not used to seeing myself with short hair. I can't decide whether i like it or not, but I like not having to deal with so much hair. It's much easier to shampoo and dry. I'm just still trying to figure out what possessed me to make such a big change so suddenly. :alien: Sigh, I'll probably end up growing out yet again.

I'm sorry you're so upset about your hair!! I did something in the "hair of the moment" a few nights ago. I'm trying to let my hair color grow out and I've been trimming my bangs....well, I tried to take a bit off the tip and just cut too low and said the heck and cut all the color off my bangs (my bangs go high towards my crown) and little further back. It looks pretty bad. The top portion of my head is now brown and too short to curl and the rest is reddish and curly.....kind like bozo with a brown touppe :clown: ...I can't do anything with it right now but maybe slick it back and wear a wide headband until it grows....So, atleast you went to a professional and I'm sure it looks beautiful but just shocking because it's such a big change.

We need to learn to leave our hair alone! I'm sure your hair looks fine - it'll grow. :)
