I thought you all might like to see these. Sorry for the eye removal, trying to give little miss some privacy. Your tips have been so helpful, thanks for the community. PS that is me with her on mother's day 2004.

Oh my what a beautiful curly!! :)
She is so adorable, God bless her!

What are you presently using on her hair,
my friend has a curly who is going on
one and she's wondering what to use on her
hair that's gentle. I told her maybe
    Jessicurl.

    Thanks for sharing! :D

Adorable! You are so blessed to have such an angel.

It looks like the curls in the front are 3b(???) I also love the braids-how long did they last on her?

I condish shampoo about every 10 days and use Abba Nourishing as a leave in. But I'm about to switch to something more hydrating. If you look at my other posts, I have a whole list of stuff i have tried, and I talk about what i did or didn't like about them. I don't know how to link you to that post though, sorry..........

When they are small like that, at one, it's really hard because they get so much food and stuff in their hair, you have to clean it all the time. when she was one, she barely had any hair. I wish I had better info for you....stay away from baby shampoo!!! and just a conditioner. L'Oreal kids has a pear detangler that I used on her at that age, and it was OK when her hair was short.

Oh, the braids the braids the braids..........she LOVED her braids. She was very funny about them. "MOMMY please DON'T touch my braids" or "leave my braids alone!" I loved the braids too, but they only looked good for about 3 days. I left them in for 8 days. I was hoping for 2 weeks, but they got really fuzzy around the top and back because she won't sleep with her hair covered.

That is ALMOST all of her own length. Just the last two inches are the fake hair. Do you think her hair got so fuzzy becuse it's such a soft texture? If her hair were more coarse and more like in the 4's would it stay longer? Her cousins can keep their braids for like 6 weeks no problem.

I had so much free time when her hair was in the braids! Like an hour at least extra a day of no combing etc!

No shampoo, here! I am following the (modified) CG routine. That's why I recommended the Jessicurl line to my friend. She is interested in following this routine not only for her baby but, for herself too. It's very gentle. I also know that Jess has recommend it it to some of her younger curlies.
Your little girl is so lucky to have a mommy that truly cares about her hair. You'll find support and excellent resources here. I wish this site existed 15 years ago, maybe my daughter wouldn't hate her curls so much today.

Yes it got fuzzy because of her texture. When I was little I was about a 3a and I got cornrows in the summer but had to have them redone every week because they would get fuzzy and unravel while my brother who has a tighter curl could keep his for almost 2 weeks. Why did you add extensions to her hair?

Why did you add extensions to her hair?

The lady who did the braids said that if we added the extensions, the style would keep longer. Her own hair would adhere in a way, to the fake hair. Also, cutie is notorious for removing any type of hair tie, so we would have had to put rubber bands or something on the ends of the braid to keep them in. With the extensions, we just braided an inch or two beyond her own hair and then "dipped" the ends. Nothing else needed, and less stuff to tempt those busy hands.

BTW, she was mad because she wanted "beads" in her hair and I said no. Let's start with one thing at a time!

Look at her!!!! She is the cutest little thing! I love the cowboy boots!

I would suggest that you just keep her hair moisturized, don't pull it back too tight and she should be fine...she's young and they are so active it's difficult to keep it perfect. Beautiful little girl!!!

Wow...what a gorgeous girl. Keep up the good work with her hair. I work with plenty moms with mixed kids and I feel like I need to have a class on how to show them take care of their hair. You indeed got a handle on it and her hair is absolutely gorgeous.
I have kinks, coils and curls on this head.

If you look at the picture with the goggles and pink shirt (my avatar), those are the same curls 3c as the one with the halloween costume 3b. sometimes she pulls on them and loosens them up, but overall I thnks she's a 3c, what do you think?

Vivasmom, the pictures of your little one brought a bright smile to my face! She is absolutely adorable and lucky that you are seeking out info on how to take care of her hair. My mom just brushed mine out dry when I was little!

I especially love how she looks with the 2 puffs. And I agree that the soft texture of her hair is prob why the braids didn't last. I tried braids and had that problem too. I'm no expert with identifying hair textures, but I would guess some combo of 3b/c. Also her hair might change over the years and get more or less curly, thicker, etc. Anyway, beautiful daughter and curls and all the best to you and your family!

Your daughter is an angel! Her hair is just awwwwwwwwwww!! the curls are precious... The thought of someone straightening that...dont want to talk about it. My son is mixed but his hair is real straight with a little flip curls at the end.
My hair is fluffy, wavy/kinky with very fine numerous strands.
