One that might be reformulated, but I hope to high heaven it's not, which is my favorite, is Fx Special Effects Curl Booster Fixative Gel.

Another that I just recently tried for the first time & like a lot is Herbal Essences Set Me Up.

Another vote for the HE Body Envy gel. I just tried that this week - and I got big fat clumpy curls and no frizz. It does dry crunchy, but I scrunch it out and the curls last all day. I even got 2nd day hair (without putting on a headband). :love1:

I used SMU before BE. The SMU has a thicker consistency, and I think it's a little heavier on the hair. Both times I've used BE I've gotten awesome lift at the roots, which never really happened with SMU. They each have strong hold, which I need. I think I'm personally going to stick with the BE, but I think for the most part they're the same.

l.a. looks durahold gel, or l.a. looks #8, hands down. I even like these better than any other gel I have tried so far. Jessiecurl, [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/DevaCurl-Angell-p-57.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=devacurl-devacurl-angell]deva angell[/buylink], biotera, aura hypo (just to name a few), none of them did it for me. I also like Joiwhip mousse but I can't use it everyday or else it stops working.

I have pretty thick hair, and a lot of it, so I really need a lot of hold and la looks has that. I can even diffuse when I use it without getting frizzy. It dries a bit crunchy but I can scrunch it out pretty well and my curls look good all day. Lately I've been mixing it in my hands with a little biotera. The biotera is so liquidy it makes the LA looks easier to distribute through my hair without breaking up my curls too much.
3a/b Thick, dry, in need of a haircut.

Wow, I have layered eyebrow-to-neck length, THICK, 3a-b hair and I only use like 2 tsp of BE. I can't imagine using a tbsp of anything (except mousse :P) on hair as short as mine. Do you use anything over/under the gel, or is that the only thing you put on your hair?

Nope - these days it's the only thing I use - after CO washing. My hair really seems to like it! :bounce:

i've been using LA looks sport, but i recently discovered much to my chagrin that it flakes. do you get any flaking problems with the durahold??

I started using the sport first and really liked it because I finally had DEFINED curls, but based on another review tried the durahold (its only 3 dollars) and swore id never use the sport again. The durahold is a little crunchy but man, the sport is craaaazy. I've been using the LA looks megamegahold(#9) because the durahold doesnt seem to exist in my new home in chicago and i used up my supply. I dont get any flakes with this one and dont seem to recall any with the durahold. I can almost never get 2nd hair though so I'm not if flakes would develop after a day or two.

I use even less of the gel! I have above shoulder length when dry and very fine. Gel lasts me a long time.
I hate it when the wind blows tho because then I get greasy looking hair. Why is that?? It looks great all day long if I don't get blown around.

Do you think BE is more of a cooler weather gel? I think I bought it near the end of last winter and it worked great. I couldn't only get it to work for me off and on over the spring/summer. Tempted to dig it out and try it again...

BE and SMU work the same in my hair, and they are my staples for humid summer weather. For me, they have great frizz control.
