Should I go short?

I have corkscrew curls, my hair is very thick and has a LOT of volume. It´s just very very big hair. I´ve been having a lot of problems with my scalp because it´s too oily so I can´t do the CG routine. Right now my hair is shoulder lenght, but I´m, thinking of going short, really short. Like Shirley Temple. Do you think it will look good, or it will only become even bigger??? I am considering this because I have to wash my hair every day , and I think maybe it would be easier if it was short.

I´m totally confused, help!

I don't know, girl; shorter usually means bigger with tight curls.

It sounds more like what you need is some good layers. Layers can pull the bulk out really effectively. You need to hunt up some pictures and take them to your hairdresser and see if she can't replicate that.

But just chopping off the length, I don't know if that's going to help with the big-ness at all. My own experience with this approach was truly dreadful. In fact, I'll tell you the truth, I looked completely crazy.

I thought short hair would be easier, too, till I had it. I found it much harder. There's less styling versatility, you can't put it up, and it is HUGE -length does make hair much flatter and if you think it's big now wait till it's short! And then if you want to grow it out it's very frustrating. I think if you want it you have to commit to it for a while and not want to grow it right away or you'll be miserable (hence why I won't do the BC.)

Shoot I just cut mine and can't wait for it to grow out so I can wear different styles. Try other options before you cut it. Cause it grows back but it is a slow process.

i have to agree with amneris & st. louis blue--i don't think shorter is the answer. i have thick coarse 3c corkscrews and i love short hair, but it just doesn't work unless its REALLY short--and then there's a real maintenance committment as far as getting it cut. also, you don't have the option of pulling it back/putting it up if you just don't want to deal with it. and if your hair has shrinkage issues like mine, it takes what seems like forever to grow it out. sorry to sound so negative. what are you using product-wise? maybe you can try something different there?

I cut my hair off 2 years ago, 2/2003 (after that bleach blond -flat iron hair). I cut it to 'one turn of a curl', so I could start over healthy and chemical free (no color). 8)
It's been a llooong... 2 years! My hair was not easier to manage shorter and I required a trim more often, as well as frequent 'line ups' on my neck and sides (see my photos and you'll see my back hair line is horrible for short hair); thus requiring alot more time, energy and money!!

So I guess my advise to you would be to only cut if your hair is unhealthy.

I agree with pretty much everybody else. If volume is your problem, short hair isn't the answer at all. Layers is a good idea.

Remember, in addition to how fast or slow your hair grows, you will have a ton of awkward in-between stages as it grows.. If you are in the mood to deal with that, go for it ! Otherwise, consider your alternatives, like getting a better haircut or shape.

i disagree with everyone, oddly enough. my hair is super low maintenence, so with it even shorter all i did was wet it rub my fingers through it and go.

I found short hair really difficult. I don't even have many pictures of myself in the growing out stage, if that says anything. The only time it would look cute is if I went through and finger swirled every last curl, which I did once every month or so.

My hair is ultra short and I LOVE it. Very easy to take care of . . .

It's all about a good cut though.

i want to go short too and i know my hair will be easier to take care of cause when its long it gets tangled and dry really easily. but when i feel my roots they are soft shiny and great looking .so yeah it just depends on the person dont go by the post on here just see and if it the short cut doesnt work out just think ITS HAIR IT GROWS and say that until you get your length back.

See, I think that ultra short hair looks great on a lot of people, as long as you have nice facial features... (a slamming body helps, but is not mandatory 8) ) Also, a short ear length bob and all the lengths after that tend to look great with curls.... It's just getting from ultra short to the ear length bob that can be a beyotch... I'm just not a fan of that awkward in-between stage that, unfortunately, you have to endure if you are going to grow out ultra short hair.. Then again, I'm not a huge fan of ultra long hair either.. I would never shoot for waist length hair, even though it can look good on others.

thank you all so much, I think you´re right about the volume, maybe it will get a lot bigger :? and I definitely don´t want that

I´ll see if I can post some pictures of my hair later, so you can give me more advice

thanks girls, it´s so nice to have someone to talk about my hair, because where I live (Mexico) very few people have curly hair, but I inherited my hair from my italian grandfahter.

    Bye amigas
