Need a good hair cut in Miami

ImaniImani Posts: 21Registered Users
Can someone help me find a good stylist in Miami? My hair is currently a little above my shoulders, with 2 different textures due to a previous anti-curl and currently has no shape. It's a nightmare. Can't seem to find someone to give me a good, basic, CURLY HAIR cut, so that I can let it grow. Please help if you know of someone in this area... Thanks!!
I am my hair.

In Fort Lauderdale there is an Ouidad Salon /home/leaving?target=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ouidad.com%2Fdefault.asp" class="Popup I haven't been there yet because I am letting my hair grow out some but they are supposed to be curly hair professionals.
Hope this helps, if you do go let me know how it went!

Thank you so much for responding! I actually went there one week and a half ago, and it was the best decision I could ever make. I am so happy with my hair cut; Adrianna cut it. I had gone there once before with Yulia, and I was not too impressed. Even though she was doing other girls' hair and they looked awesome. Then I read a review somewhere that said that Yulia is better with longer hair and I agree. But Adrianna was awesome. Please let me know how it goes for you if you decide to go!

I have learned my lesson not to relax again. Now I need to be armed with patience to get my hair to the length I want. :0

    Happy curl days!

Hi, thank you for the info, but I tried it and nothing comes up close to my zip code :(. I remember seeing someone at a GBS, too (very close to my house, actually), but he does not work there anymore.

Alright, I've just made an appointment with the Deva stylist Larramy Wood for next week. I'm excited but I'm hoping that I will not be dissapointed! I've been trying to grow out my hair so I wasn't going to do a cut..only color, but Larramy said that the Deva cut won't take off any length...it's about shaping the hair. Wish me luck, I will let you know how it goes! :toothy7:

Congratulations on your good hair cut! How long was your hair, and how long is it now? Where is this Larramy person? And which products did he (she?) use to style your hair? TIA.

I have been growing my hair out since last summer. I have layers that are trying to catch up to the length which is the center of my back. The sides of my hair are almost there but my bangs are taking forever. Currently they reach the top of my lips when wet and then shrink up to my eyes when air dryed. Not to mention my hair when left down is bulky and no one wants to thin it so i pull it up with a barrett daily. I really want to wear my hair down but with the different lengths and bulk its impossible! Anyone know a curly girl stylist here in MD?

    Does he style nappy hair????
  • Brittany2011Brittany2011 Posts: 31Registered Users
Well my cut was about 3 weeks ago so I don't think it could grow that much in such little time. My hair (when wet) was about a 1/2 inch above my shoulders. I think it is shoulder length now. I told Larramy I wanted to keep the length and he said not to worry because he only "shapes the hair." He is located at the GBS Salon in Fort Lauderdale right in front of the court house. Give them a call 954-763-6955 and they can give you directions. He only uses Deva Curl products and he walks you through the steps of the routine so you can do it on your own with the Deva products...also he gives you the Deva Curl DVD which shows you everything too. I HATED my hair until I went to Larramy. I cannot tell you how much I love my hair and I am actually confident to wear it down. Plus the compliments on it are great

If you need any other info. just let me know.

osocristie- I'm not sure if he styles nappy hair but give him a call because he definitely knows what he is doing

Those of you who've gotten good to great cuts locally in So FL/Miami, could you please post pics or links to pics. It would be helpful to let us know if your hair is like ours or your hair aesthetics (ie, what you consider a great cut) is what we consider a great cut. :D

    I know tastes differ.

    Thanks.

UPDATE OCTOBER 2010: Larramy Wood asked me to post that is no longer at GBS; he's now at Dan Davis Salon, 2424 N Federal Hwy, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33305. You can call the salon at 954-396-9997 or call Larramy's cell at 954-401-7398.

So keep giving him business at his new place!

@ MirCurls: Here's a pic a few days after one of my cuts by Larramy. I loved this cut. Sorry that it's not a full view but it's better than nothing, click on it to enlarge it

I started doing the Coppolla Keratin treatment about a year ago, but I am thinking of transitioning back to my curls because I miss them. I'm going to go back to Larramy if I do decide to transition back.

@Miami92: Thank you so much for updating everyone on Larramy's new information! I would have been really upset if I couldn't have found him! I still had his old number.

Bertha Rayo = Terrible, terrible. I called before I went, asked all the Deva questions, and she said she had curly hair. She had short, butch, straight hair. I stupidly let her work on my hair. She created stringy, hard, gunky strands. My hair looked 100% better before I went in. She didn't list to any of my questions, either. Then I found out Lorraine Massey was going to be in town, so I made an appointment at that GBS, and they were so overbooked, it was ridiculous. I had a 3:15 appt., left at 5:30 when they still had only worked on two people, and there were still four in front of me.

So I also went to Rapunzel. The girl had long straight hair. When will I learn? She refused to cut it dry, cut choppy layers into it, and made a mess of it. Still looking for good Miami curl cutter.

    Hi all,

Just FYI, I talked to Larramy Wood a few days ago, and he's working independently now. So the only way to set up an appointment is to call his cell phone at 954-401-7398 (don't call Dan Davis Salon or GBS). I always love my haircuts with him so so much! Enjoy!

I had my hair cut Laramy a number of times while he was at GBS, no question the haircuts were good. Now I am dying for a good haircut so may just have to give him a call.

Do any of you know if Laramy is still reachable by the same number or if he has new contact info?

I definitely need my curls cut right!

    Thanks in Advance

I came across Shaiamiel on instagram and I loved the pictures of his work but hes in CA and will only come to miami if he has about 10 clients. Is Larramy still working, if so where? Does his results look like shaiamiel? www.shaiamiel.com

Does she cut the hair dry and is it expensive? I've had a Deva cut before but had to drive to Broward. I live in Hialeah and would love to find some place closer.

I just had my first Deva Curl cut. After thorough search, I came across Larry Wood's information in this forum. I am so happy I entrusted my hair to him. I have been transitioning for one year now and I find it was the best decision. For me. I did not do the "big chop" as I find that I had great length and was willing to be patient and put all the work to restore my hair. After few breakage, I decided to go to Larramy Wood. He is absolutely wonderful. He takes the time to talk to you and tell you what in his opinion should be done in your hair. However, he does not impose his opinion - he will ultimately do what you want. I followed his professional advice and just requested for him
To preserve my length and he did. My cut came out beautiful and I find my hair is better shaped and has a better form. I have a long way to go in my transitioning journey. I have accomplished a lot but still working with 2 different textures which is getting on my last nerves!!! Haahaha notwithstanding, I am enjoying this journey very much and look forward to my hair reaching its full potential. Larramy Wood's updated info is:

    Hello curly girls,
First off I'm so sorry it has to be so difficult to get a good curly cut. And I'm ashamed that more of my colleagues don't train in this texture.
Let me introduce myself, my name is Alicia Francis and I'm a stylist in the Miami area. I have naturally curly hair myself (although sometimes I wear extensions and straighten, perks of the job) and I have experienced many horrible hack jobs by inexperienced stylists over the years. That is the main reason I became a stylist myself. I didn't intentionally plan to become specialized in curls, I met Loraine Massey at a beauty show years ago when she was first promoting her curly deva cuts and she approached me about working as an educator for deva (I was an educator for rusk at the time). She personally taught me her method and philosophy and it wasn't till yrs later in Mia that it became an asset to me. I started with just a couple regular curly clients who always loved the way I handled their hair and they began to spread my name around, I now think at least 50-75% of my clientele are natural curly girls.
So as a stylist my tips to you would be
    1. get a recommendation, don't try a stylists until you can find someone who has tried them and loved them
    2. Call ahead of time and ask a few questions, don't waste your time if it sounds like they are to busy for you or uneducated on the questions you ask
    3. at the appointment tell the stylist what you like about your current look and what you dislike and ask their opinion b4 you tell them what you want, this gives you an idea of their style and the experience
    4. speak up , if it seems like they are inexperienced with your texture or they do something that you know isn't correct for curls ask them to explain why and don't hesitate to cut the appt short if your uncomfortable.
Hope this helps. If anyone would like to ask me a question direct you can reach me at #hairmiami on instagram or hair-miami online
also please check out my client Aisha Thalia on instagram at #aishathalia she posts curl tips and care and is a great source of curl inspiration
