Please help! Sad news for all the NYC devas :(

I just spoke to Lilly from Devachan on Broadway (NYC) and she told me that Francis past away this morning :( They don't know any further details as to what happened; they found him this morning.

This is where i need help: Francis was going to style my hair for my wedding next year, and now i don't know what to do.

I live in Edgewater, NJ and my wedding will be in Rockland County, NY (Nyack). Can anyone recommend a great Deva stylist in Rockland or Bergen/Hudson county who knows curly hair?

I would like to find something closer to home the day of the wedding, but i need to make sure that i go to someone who knows curly hair. Before i went to Devachan, i use to hate going to get hair cuts and coloring, bc no body knew what to do with my curls...

Please help!

Oh my dear God! I went to Francis for my 1st Deva cut...that's terrible news. But, I would recommend any of the other stylists at Deva if you wanted to stick with them. I don't know anyone else in that area though...I'm from Jersey myself.

Who else would you recommend from their salon? I was reading about the salon thats in Livingston, NJ (recommended by this site). I should find something closer to my house; especially the day of my wedding. I have to be at church at 3:30 and Devachan doesn't open until 11- they said they might let me come in at 9. (With traffic, parking and getting out of the city- you never know).

Thank you banjocurl... have you been to her, do you know anyone who has? I'll try calling her today. I know that the best go to the city, just because its so close- buy it would be great to find Deva stylists outside in the suburbs too. PS- what salon do you go to?

Thanks so much! I don't know anything what happened to Francis- they didn't really say.

I don't go to Devachan, but that is so sad. My condolences to his family and friends.

That is so sad. I used to go to Francis. I stopped going because of the expense. He was a true diva himself and was such a wonderful person. The world will miss him.

I'm going to see Debbie at Hair 166 this saturday.... Can't wait! I spoke to her and she described the same techniques she uses as Devachan salon does. If this works out- this will be great for Rockland County area! And, she admitted to being so much less expensive than Devachan. Which is always great to hear :)

Does anyone have a photo of Francis from a visit to Devachan? I've been going to Jackie, but I've often exchanged smiles and had little conversations with other stylists. I'd like to put a face to this terrible news.

So sad..I cant believe this. The first time I went to Devachan, Francis cut my hair. He was so nice and not pushy. I told him not to cut off too much and he didn't. I wonder if this ws a big news story in NY.

    Hi banjo...

Debbie was great, however, i only got a deep conditioning treatment and she then clipped my hair. I also tried another salon, Plush Salon, in White Plains, which was absolutely horrible! They are supposively Deva trained, but they don't have a clue of how to do curly hair--- they washed my hair with regular shampoo, only used One C at the end, they wanted to blow dry my hair.... I left the salon with tears in my eyes because she said my hair will fall out if i don't get it trimmed ???!!! (this was after she shampooed it :()

I'm going to see Robert this saturday at Devachan for a hair cut... I always know i'm in good hands there.

However, there is a Devachan opening in White Plains in the next month or so. It will have everything as the two locations in the city have---- i'm very excited!

Francis was murdered in his home at the end of September. There was no sign of forced entry, so police speculated he knew his killer. As of right now, I don't know that anyone has yet been arrested.

I modeled on stage for Francis in June at Premiere Orlando (one of the largest annual hair shows for beauty industry professionals). He was a great guy and an awesome stylist. It's such a tragic loss :(

I heard that it was his partner :( Supposively he went on a Mediteranean cruise and met a group of people, whom he met up with 2 nights earlier. So sad!

He did not have a partner. There has been no arrest and there are no leads execpt that they do believe he met this person on-line.

Earlier in this thread I asked if anyone had a photo of Francis and no one replied. Can anyone describe him so I can figure out who he was? I often chat with other stylists in passing while at Devachan and would like to put a face to this sad story.

I have been reading the postings re. a Deva trained salon in Rockland and Westchester counties. I have gone to the city to the Deva Salon to Jackie and was happy, but what a pain and expensive. I'm also looking for a closer alternative. I too live in Rockland, but never heard of Debbie of Hair 166 until this website. For some reason I'm sceptical of her talents...prove me wrong. I'm going to try Lois from Louis de Chiarro Salon, Eastchester next month. I found her in this website, someone gave her a rave review and said she is Deva trained. I have a better feeling that this Westchester salon might be closer to the real Deva experience than Monsey, NY. I also heard about the WHite Plains opening of Devaschan, but can't get any concrete info about it. Does anybody have more info re. the Louis de Chiarro Salon?

just curious--why do you feel sceptical about debbie from hair 166? if you live in rockland why not just drive over and talk to her before you decide? i have not gone to her (yet) but have heard good things and have popped in the salon to get deva stuff now and then. monsey is a visibly orthodox community but i do not think debbie's salon is. married women in these communities get their sheitels done anyway, not their real hair....

I'm skeptical not because she is in Monsey, but because I never heard of her pre this website. AFter living in Rockland for so long I think I've tapped all the knowledge of any good haircutters in the county. Again, I can be wrong. I just have a better feeling about this one in Eastchester. It is not too bad of a commute for the frequency I need to go and I need to go with my gut. Please let me know about your experience with Debbie. WHen is your appointment? I would love to hear about your experience. P.S. they sell the Deva products in New City at New City Beauty and Beauty Plus. They always have coupons for 20% - 40% off in the Clipper magazines.

well, i never heard of any haircutters at all before going on this website--esp in rockland-i always went to panico in oradell and then in w caldwell but despite the fact that i had a master stylist, he still could not tell me how to deal w my curls till devachan. i think my friend will be going to debbie soon, will let u know what she thinks. she is the redhead with me in devachan 2007 pics. my hair is not in need of cutting yet and i plan to go in feb 2008 by which time white plains will be open we hope. i might go to debbie if alex likes her. we're almost hair twins. i've gone to devachan in NYC 4 times now and have been very happy every time.
best of luck in echester and thanks for the tip about new city.
