Scrunchies and broken hair.

Hi curlies,
There was a thread earlier about someone's hair breaking at the nape of their neck. I was wondering if they were going to bed with wet hair pulled into a scrunchi? Wet and putting up can make your hair weaker and more susceptible to breakage.

That might have been me on the gen hair board you're talking about.

I was discussing how my new Deva stylist said that my going to bed with my hair in a ponytail was breaking & splitting the hair underneath the middle back portion. It wasn't at the nape.

I didn't always put it in a folded or regular ponytail with my hair wet or damp. Sometimes it was dry & sometimes my hair was loose. I did use a cotton pillowcase for the last 6 months or so. And I toss & turn horribly at night sometimes to where the entire back of my head is a rat's nest.

I recently switched back to satin pillowcases & I've been leaving my hair down. Though the sound of my hair rustling on the fabric irks the hell out of me!

Silk charmeuse is more expensive but it doesn't rustle. The Sally Beauty polyester satin case I bought first irked the hell out of me.

Where do I get silk pillowcases at?

I think my hair rustled more on the cotton & less on the satin, so I'd like to try silk.

I love satin silk charmeuse pillow cases. I bought mine from eBay. This vendor has really nice ones in regular, queen and king sizes:

We don't have an ebay account. I guess we should get one, but we've never needed one before. :-|

I got a package of 2 silk charmeuse pillowcases at Bed, Bath & Beyond. I think they were $19.99, but I saved $4.00 by using one of their 20% off coupons...

Definitely worth it -- good luck!!
    3A (I think)

Loving my curls after all these years -- but still trying to figure out what works for me...

I ordered mine from the ebay site and it arrived in 3 days. It feels wonderful and was beautifully packed. I can't wait to try it tonight. It does feel softer and lighter than the satin pillowcases I've been using.

I'm going to look into this. I continually get coupons & that keeps me going back to the store, especially for Salt City Candles.

Ooo...I'm glad you like it. I wash mine with the rest of the sheets, but I don't put it in the dryer, rather let it air dry. It's held up very well.

    Many thanks for the referral!

It was so much better to sleep on then satin. Much cooler. Do you use fabric softner when washing it?

No. I don't use fabric softener at all though, in any of my laundry. Not a fan. The silk case may be a little stiff after air drying, but it will soften back up when you put it on the pillow.

I guess I'm going to have to get an eBay account because I checked Bed Bath & Beyond today & they only sell satin pillowcases.
  • icequeenicequeen Posts: 590Registered Users
You can call the vendor directly to give a credit card number so maybe she would take an order without using ebay. They really are wonderful pillowcases. I use 2 pillows in bed. One now has a satin pillowcase and the other silk. I now can't stand the satin pillowcase and will be reordering another silk one. They are quiet and so much cooler.

It might have been me too as I had 1/2 my hair breaking at the nape and my hairstylist blamed it on the scrunchie use while sleeping.
I got a satin pillow case and a satin sleep cap at Sally's Beauty CHEAP and use them instead of tying my locks back. I use a Jessicurl deep moisture treatment with a heat cap once a week (sometimes twice).
I started using the Sweet Success scalp oil & doing a nice scalp massage twice a week, the night before my sulfate free shampoo. I read about the oil & massage on the LHC.
I stopped using any heat other than a low, gentle defusing dry. I confess, I was wearing my 2b hair straight!
My hair has much MUCH improved in the past 3 months. I have embraced the natural curl, gone to a CG Devacurl stylist had lowlights added and I have new pictures to share too.
I am a PJ, so all the stuff I'm doing is therapy for me & my hair.

I've never seen the silk ones at BBB. I found these online, but they are polyester satin, not silk:

Are yours actually silk? Do you have any more info so I can find them? TIA.

I bought one from Feeling Pampered & got it today! I can't wait to try it out tonight! :bounce:

ETA: I tried it out & I think my hair makes less noise on it. I need to remember to not wear my anniversary band, which badly snagged the satin ones.
