curl keeper alternative

i was looking through my old pics and i remembered that [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Curly-Hair-Solutions-Curl-Keeper-p-28.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=curly-hair-solutions-curl-keeper]curl keeper[/buylink] worked really well for me--the thing is, at $14 (before shipping) for 8 oz, and the amount i have to use, thats like a dollar a day for one product. So i was wondering if anyone had any cheaper, cg friendly alternatives for [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Curly-Hair-Solutions-Curl-Keeper-p-28.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=curly-hair-solutions-curl-keeper]curl keeper[/buylink]--i'm looking for the definition aspect of it.
Thanks!

Just bumping because I'd like to know too. I really love CK, just recently started using, but I am dismayed by how fast I am using it up. Now I am rationing what I have left for days when I REALLY want good hair!

I've never tried CK but I've read that KY jelly has just about the same ingredients. You could buy the generic brand at Wal-Mart and see how it compares. Good Luck!

Silly as it sounds, KY worked as a good alternative for me.

Also, Flat Iron Finish by Easy Straight is very similar, but not much cheaper.

..are you guys serious?? who would have thought. but i have a question before i use it: what kind of consistency is ky jelly? (actually i'm planning on buying the generic version) Is it greasy like ointment or more like gel?

It feels a little greasier than gel to me. But my hair doesn't come out looking greasy when I use it. I only use it occasionally, though.

It's kind of between an ointment and a gel, but it doesn't leave your hair feeling greasy. It offers nothing for frizz control, but all I have to do is put another product over the palm of my hands and go over the outer layer of hair.

I did the KY thing years ago, but when I posted about it, there weren't many who were willing to try it.

Maybe it was really that there weren't many who would admit they tried it. It does sound kinda ---well, bizzare!!

I have a couple photos in my link using the "easy straight" product.

    What does the ky do?

There have been a few threads on this recently. Some curlies have had success using KY, Astroglide, and other lubes as a substitute for [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Curly-Hair-Solutions-Curl-Keeper-p-28.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=curly-hair-solutions-curl-keeper]Curl Keeper[/buylink]. Some prefer the jelly, some prefer the liquid. The ingredients are very close to CK! Here are a couple of links for your edification & amusement! :laughing9:

Well I use it when I am done with my co-wash then apply my gel over it.
For days I am not wetting my hair, I use a quarter size and rub my hands together and sorta scrunch focusing on the ends also.
I noticed my curls spring back up but it looks hydrated and healthy.

TRUST ME after all the hair troubles dat I have had recently, the doc said it was ok so until it fails me, I am sticking to this routine.

You can buy the [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Curly-Hair-Solutions-Curl-Keeper-p-28.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=curly-hair-solutions-curl-keeper]curl keeper[/buylink] the large size on the internet. I bought the small one because I wanted to try it out. I think it's 38 (not sure)
