Looking for a yummy dairy-free frosting recipe

I'm baking a cake for my son's class next week. Normally, I would make a buttercream frosting, but one little girl is allergic to dairy. Does anyone know a good frosting recipe that is dairy-free? It can be white, chocolate, whatever flavor. Thanks!

Now I've never done this myself, but I'm thinking you can use powdered sugar (aka confectioner's sugar), some vanilla extract and some cocoa powder. Blend in with some water to the right consistency. Maybe if you want something a little thicker, you can add some plain gelatin or non dairy margerine.

My mom used to make wedding cakes and the frosting was made out of Crisco, vanilla, and powdered sugar. I'm not sure of the measurements. I'm sure you can find this type of frosting online. Just look under wedding cakes. I think most wedding cake frostings are made of this.

BTW.....that icing is FABULOUS!!! Really bad for you, but fabulous.

I am not sure if this is dairy free, but, check the ingredients,

    One tub Cool-Whip non-dairy
    1 package vanilla instant pudding

mix together and frost. I use the strawberry once in awhile and my kids love it. My son is lactoce intolerant and it has never bothered him. Double check the pudding to make sure :D
