Bangs with curly hair

OK, I've been doing this CG thing for a year now. I'm liking the curls although I still have frustrations with products working & then suddenly not working......Ugh.

However, the one thing that I constantly struggle with is since I've grown out my bangs. The hair never lays right, the curls don't hold right & it truly drives me crazy. Plus, I have a cowlick right in the middle of my forehead & it looks stupid half the time because it's too hard to fight it to make it lay right. How many of you have bangs with your curly hair? And do you wear them straight or curly?

I'm so tempted to gome home tonight & get out the scissors & give myself some bangs.....But then I hate to do something rash.........

I like bangs when my hair is straightened, but I just got some cut, and I hate them. I used to be able to straighten them enough to live with them using velcro rollers, but I guess that part of my hair is too curly now. It's strightening iron or gel them out of my face for now. Think twice.

I have long bangs from when I used to straighten my hair and have sort of kept them. Sometime I put my hair up in a claw in the back and then straighten my bangs a little.

Most of the time now I wear my hair down, curly and part it to the side. The bangs are side swept and blend in. I like having them because it frames my face better then if my hair was long in front. I do have to work with them a little sometimes to get them to look just right. :drunken:

You have my hair ;) I just gel and straighten mine...I've tried growing them out, but I really need something over my forehead.

I just recently got bangs cut again after debating for months on whether I should. I'm glad I did, I think they turned out nicely. I don't wear them curly. After they are dry I run the durling iron or the flat iron through them to make them lay down.

Ab, your bangs look awesome! They are very flattering. You & Sassette keep tempting me to try bangs even though I have hardly no forehead. Sassette says that her stylist tells her even with a small forehead you can pull off bangs if they are cut right. Finding someone that can cut them right is a challenge for me.

Gotcurls?, I'd check out Sassette's (I believe that is her handle) pictures, in addition to Ab-star's. Whoever cut Sassette's bangs did a great job.

Thanks, I like them so far. :D I found Sassette's pics and I love her bangs! I think you should go for it too, Brio!! If you really hate them, it's just hair and they'll grow back...but I think they would look really good on you.

I have bangs but I wear them parted in the middle so it always looks like i'm trying to grow them out. I guess they're side-swept bangs but they dont "sweep" across my face

    Hey ab-star.

Now that I'm back from vacation I have tried both my work computer and my home computer & neither will let me in to see your fotki pictures with your bangs. I'm bummed!

Is jack still the correct password? I've tried it all lower case, upper case, you name it.

Any suggestions? Anyone else not able to get in?

    Awww, you're so nice! :) :love5:

I love my bangs. The front section of my hair is REALLY heavy and thick, so having bangs cut in helped immensely with keeping my hair under control. My stylist layered them so they look long even though I have a small forehead.

I diffuse my hair every day, so right before I do that I give my bangs a quick blow-dry with a big round brush.

I think it depends on how tight your curls are to whether they look right or not straightened. If it's super tight curls I don't think bangs that are straightened look right. Too 80's. If the curl is looser and then you straighten, it's not as bad because they look like they blend. AbStar and Sassette's are super cute.

If you are planning to leave the bangs curly, I think you can pull it off as long as you leave them long enough to account for shrinkage. I have always had bangs in some way or another and always leave them curly. Straightening them does not look right on me. The trick to mine is that I have to leave them long enough so that they touch the end of my nose when they are wet. Any shorter than that and they curl funny and end up way about my eyebrows. If they are at the tip or longer then they will curl better and lay just at or a little below my eyebrows depending on the look I am going for (straight down or side swept). Currently I am trying to grow them back out from a bad cut. Too short. I will be going back to a side swept.

mine are (were actually) at about the same length, just passed my nose, but I would only do them sideswept if i straightened them, because I thought they looked weird sideswept and curly, do you have any pictures?

    Sassette,

I've been to your webpage, but I can't find a good picture of your hair. Where should I look?

    Thanks for the help!

Here is one pic. I don't know how well it shows the bangs though (and I can't see the pic because my work pc is blocking it but I posted it before so hopefully it works).

    My cut

I will look tonight to see what other pics I have.

I'm a big fan of bangs with curls/waves. I kinda need to have bangs though so I guess that made me more committed to making them work. I just pull mine straight when they're wet and sort of plaster them to my forehead. I comb my fingers through them to get them to dry faster and straighter. They dry pretty straight most of the time and I have a straightening iron just in case.

I have also struggled with what to do with my bangs. I used to have hair down my back, but recently cut it to a bob just above my shoulders.

I find that you have to be really careful straightening the bang ... if you do too much, you end up looking like you have two hairstyles happening.
I was told to "Pin" them until they were dry ... I thought it sounded straight forward at first, but I haven't managed to do it successfully.

Does anyone know of any websites, or other places where they show you how to do this? I've ordered Curly Girl, but it hasn't come in yet.

    Any pointers appreciated !!!

I have side bangs. I wear them curly, unless I straighten my whole head. SO growing them longer- they're just not for me. If you want bangs, it helps to keep your hair parted that way even while you wash it, so it gets used to laying that way.

I liked the idea of keeping your hair parted when you wash it. I had been parting it after I put the product in ... but that meant putting a comb through my hair.
What do you do with the bangs as your hair dries? I have tried twisting it with my fingers away from my face .... I have only been successful with this ONCE :hmph:
Recently I've been trying to put them where I want them and then bobby pin them ... again only slightly successful.
Any pointers would be GREATLY appreciated !!!

I have two cowlicks, one on each side of a natural center to off-center part. I posted about this recently. I've switched from bangs being straight down, since the cowlicks part them in the center to off-center, to a side swept bang going from right to left. Though it gets parted too. I hate cowlicks!

My hair naturally doesn't start curling until it's around the top of the ears. From there up it's waves to straight. Though if left to air dry, my bangs end up with curls, so it must be the length of the rest of my hair pulling out the curl. But you won't find me with short hair again. It just doesn't look right on me.

Anyhow, I wear my bangs straight & they look just fine with the rest of my hair.
