Curly pudding substitute> try this at least once

I like the [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Miss-Jessies-Curly-Pudding-p-578.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=miss-jessies-curly-pudding]curly pudding[/buylink] and buttercreme but they arre a bit much on the pocket book considering the amount of hair I have so I made my own. I think it's nice these girls hit on some thing but It's not really any thing new. Take a look for your self. I came up with 3 products that you can buy @ walgreens for under $7 bucks and mix together for a hold b/t the buttercreme and the pudding. If you want to buy Miss Jessies for special occations or something, great, but if you need an every day solution to looking good please try this at least once.

Miss Jessie’s:

PROCLAIM Curl Activator Gel 32 oz FOR $3

Water Aqua , Glycerin , Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein , Hyaluronic Acid , Panthenol , Oleth-20 , Carbomer , Triethanolamine , Benzophenone-4 , Disodium EDTA , DMDM Hydantoin Fragrance Parfum ,

COCOACARE : cocoa butter stick 1 oz $0.99ea

PROCLAIM : petrolium bees wax 4oz $2.19

HERE IS HOW YOU DO IT.

3 STICKS COCOA BUTTER

1/2 OF JAR OF BEESWAX 2oz

1 32 oz TUB CURL ACTIVATOR

[color=darkred]Begin by taking the cocoa butter sticks and placing them in a bowl. Scoop out 1/2 jar of bees wax and place it in the same bowl. Microwave bees wax and cocoa butter until they are liquid. Use an other larger bowl to put the curl activator it. Leave some curl activator inside of the jar for later. Take liquid wax and cocoa butter and pour it into the bowl with the curl activator. Mix vigorously with a spoon. what you will first get while mixing these the two may look like cellulite but be persistant and keep mixing until the mixture looks exactly like vanilla pudding then mix in remander of activator gel in the jar.

If you do not microvave the bees wax well enough it will clump up when you add it to the cold gel activator it may bead up and not allow you to get the perfectly smooth consistancy that you want. If this happens put the whole solution in the microwave for 4 minutes then beging to mix again. after about 2 minutes of mixing add back in the curl activator you left out from before and it should begin to look like pudding.

Apply to wet hair and style using shingling process discribed @ curvesalon.com. or how ever you wish.

This recipe on one average head of hair will last for about 2 months, and costs under 10 dollars, with some bees wax left over to haddle those pesky edge naps. I hope this has been helpful and I hope it works for you.

3C thick corkscrewy baby fine hair. I have been on my HG (healthy Girl) routine since 10/04: no harsh shampoo, no heat (except for diffusing with low heat and DT),lots of moisture and few styling products.

I have c3 too and I'm so glad I found this formula! nothing else will tame my hair. It is a bit heavy but I need it to weigh down my hair. and since i've been using it my hair has stopped breaking and is growing a lot nicer.

I am sure another butter or oil can be used in place of the bees wax.

hey guys, actually it's not a lot of beewax, i think you guys just saw "half a jar" and got scared. 2 oz is about the size of a travel bar of soap and she used half of that amount! aka enough to fit in the palm of your hand. she mixed in 32 oz of curl activator and 3 sticks of cocoa butter so if you think about it compared to the other ingredients, it's barely there. beeswax isn't all that bad as long as you use shampoo but if you cg then this isn't for you. there is candelila wax in one of my shampoos and i'm fine with it because it helps to slick down the frizzies.

let us know how it turns out joey :)

I gave it a try.... well, a modified version. I have a lot of fine, long hair that is 3B, so the wax would weigh my hair down. I tried it just with the curl activator gel and the cocoa butter. It definitely gave me good curl definition, lots of volume and texture. But it was not soft, which is important to me. By the end of the day, I had a frizzy halo and my hair was tangled. The next day before I washed my hair, I brushed out the tangles and lost a lot of hair.

I also tried the curl activator gel alone before I mixed in the cocoa butter, and it gave me good curl definition (the stringy kind, not the clumpy kind, which I prefer). My hair was also soft without any crunch or stick. It was a little frizzy, so I put on some Frederic Fekkai Glossing Creme, and it tamed the frizzies.

I might use the modified mixture for pictures, or a special occasion, because it gave me lots of volume. But I wouldn't want to lose that much hair on a daily basis.

All I did to modify it was leave out the beeswax. I have fine hair, so I thought the wax would weigh it down.

I stopped using it altogether. My hair wasn't soft, and it was very tangled. I did like the activator gel w/o anything added.

    :? SIGH

    Hello All

So I tried the substitute .... and I am not happy with the results, well there aren't any to speak of. So lemme start from the beginning. I spent the morning yesterday shopping for the products. Since around last October using ORS products. So I bought ORS Uplifting shampoo and Silk Elements hair mayo to be cheap because ORS mayo is $9.99 in Florida (who knew I had been getting my hair done in a salon in South America WITH all the ORS products for $2600GD=$13 including my 2 strand twists damn!!!). Makes me wanna go back.

Anyway I followed directions exactly and bought everything listed in the recipe. At around 7:30pm I started mixing once again I followed directions and the mixture came out beautifully. I finished that around 8:30pm. Then it was off to washing the hair did that took like :30mins.

I had my mom put the product into my hair round 10pm and this is where the disaster started (love my moms but she knows very little about natural hair). WE PUT TOO MUCH PRODUCT even though i kept telling her to not put too much more, oh I forgot to mention please remember that a jar lid full of product refers to the MISS JESSIE JAR LID FULL NOT THE 32Oz PROCLAIM ACTIVATOR JAR LID (hmm ok that was a serious blonde moment I blame it on the fumes and that one was my mistake not Moms)! My hair was making all kinds of wierd squishy sounds. The type of sounds you would have expected to stay inside the jar of goo.

Then it was off to the dryer @ 11:30pm. By this time I was just hoping that the gel would dry and things would be perfect and that would be the end of this sad tale but alas it was not meant to be. I came out from under the dryer at 1:10am with a squishy STILL WET nappy hair slickdown and grease melting down my back and into my ears. Very attractive look :x.....yeah right!

By this time mom's already in bed so I was freaing out nobody to rant to about the disaster. I proceeded back to the bathroom to comtemplate what to do the save this hairstyle. Yes the curls are there but at what cost I was afraid to go to bed for fear of being a fire hazard or greasing up moms sheets (which i am sure would be worse than the former). I have not felt this kind of stress since the jerrycurl of 1993. SIGH!!!!!

So took my metal mixing spoon i esed earlier and began to scrape the grease-o-gel or gel-o-grease out of my hair as much as i could. Then I wrung out -YES wrung as in To extract (liquid) by twisting or compressing as in To twist, squeeze, or compress, especially so as to extract liquid- the remaining GOG out of my hair WASHED my hair AGAIN (no conditioner, really whats the point), scrubbed the bathtub at 2am in the freakin morning, scrubbed the sink and washed all the combs I tried to use in the extraction process. And now here I sit at 3:08 am on a new day more greasy than yesterday at 8:30pm, more educated, still nappy and with a wet fro that I am too frustrated to comb out. There is no moral its to late to think of one, find it for own damn self(jk :wink: ). No but seriously I can't think of one its too late and as I said before the fumes got to me.... Goodnight

    Lots of Love and Nappiness

^^^wow i guess i wont be trying this recipe..i thought that i could totally make some [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Miss-Jessies-Curly-Pudding-p-578.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=miss-jessies-curly-pudding]curly pudding[/buylink] finally without the steep price tag. (oh well) Anyone found a product that works just as well as [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Miss-Jessies-Curly-Pudding-p-578.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=miss-jessies-curly-pudding]curly pudding[/buylink] without having to shell out like $40 for it?

brownsugar07, the problem sapodillagal had was because she used too much - if you have good results with [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Miss-Jessies-Curly-Pudding-p-578.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=miss-jessies-curly-pudding]curly pudding[/buylink] and don't use too much, you'll prolly be fine with this
    OMG, LOOK!!

    ...It's a siggie.

I use the curl substitute also and never had a squishing problem. It definitely sounds like too much of the product has been applied. I also let mine air dry after I get it in the style I want. Bottom line, it has done very well for me and saved me a bundle. :?

i've never tried the [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Miss-Jessies-Curly-Pudding-p-578.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=miss-jessies-curly-pudding]curly pudding[/buylink]. My parents dont like to buy things online and I dont live in NY so I can't go to the salon and get it. Anywayz, since you mentioned not to use too much I might go ahead and try the substitute. Idk when though..maybe when all my other products run out cuz my mom is not too happy about my emerging product junky-ism lol. (yea i kinda made up a word..lol)

I haven't tried the recipe....but can't believe how much the ingredients in Miss Jessie's [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Miss-Jessies-Curly-Pudding-p-578.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=miss-jessies-curly-pudding]Curly Pudding[/buylink] and Buttercreme have changed from what was listed in the OP!! I read about the change in this forum, but had never seen the original ingredient list before. I might have actually liked the stuff back then. What a shame!!
