Cough/Cold While Pregnant

Anyone have a cough/cold while pregnant? What were you able to take? I've got a cough that's keeping me up at night and driving me crazy. I've got the humidifier going at night and am trying to drink lots of fluids, but is there any remedy that's worked for anyone?

Thanks!

    Vicks vapo rub. Saline spray.

According to the handout I have from my doctor, you can safely take Robitussin DM.

My doctor's office has a website that lists what OTC medications are safe during pregnancy here.

For cough, it says Robitussin DM and non-menthol cough drops are safe.

Check with your doctor. My doc told me that most people could take some cold medicines, however I could not because I have high blood pressure and decongestants can raise your bp.

If you don't have bp issues though, you can probably take something to make you feel better, just talk to your doctor first.

No medicines for me - my doctor claimed that cough medicine is only slightly more effective than water, so it was a lot of water and juice, rest, vaporizer, neti pot, warm olive oil throat massage, saline spray, etc.

Oh dear. I had a menthol cough drop yesterday. I was in a recording studio and didn't want to be the moron who required other people to do numerous takes due to her hacking. Is this bad?

But I'll be asking the good doctor today what he advises. I think I need major rest - I'm starting a new show and have tons o'rehearsals. I may have to play the pregnancy card tonight and book after Act I is done.

I'm sure ONE drop will be fine. My list actually doesn't mention menthol at all, so I can't imagine that it would be that terrible.

That's what I'm thinking - I've felt the baby all day yesterday and today since taking the dreaded menthol drop, so we shuold be fine!

I took robitussin DM for a cough that I had for about 6 weeks. I don't know why I even bothered, it really did nothing.

My doctor said Benedryl was ok. All it did was put me to sleep - which was wonderful since I was so miserable.

I ended up getting having to get a precription for cough medicene, I got a terrible bout of acute bronchitis it was the last stage of a long illnesses including stomach flu and ear infection/strep throat, all during the 1st trimester with bad morning sickness. I couldn't sleep or eat well, doctor finally broke down and gave it too me so I could get the rest I needed to get over everything.

We saw the dr. yesterday, he said Robitussin, so I took it before bed and slept pretty well and am not coughing as much today.

cympreni - You poor thing. I'm sorry you had to go through that while being pregnant.

Thanks for all the advice! I'm so glad I have here to ask stuff like that - I tried the boards at babycenter.com and was just......weirded out. Thank heavens for fellow curlies!

All these sick preggos...I never even had so much as a sniffle while pregnant. Being pregnant gave me super-immunity. I wish I could always have that, because as each kid started school, I was sick for a year straight each time.

I fought bronchitis during my first trimester and I took Robitussin then. Isn't it great stuff?
