Shea butter on your face?

deliriadeliria Posts: 35Registered Users
I read that one NCer uses shea butter on her face as a moisturizer. If I have acne prone skin, will it just cause me to break out or will it be good for my skin?

I tried the cetaphil, but it wasn't nice for me. I finally figured out that it was *causing* my breakouts. I switched to 2 drops of jojoba oil as a moisturizer and everything's been clearing up nicely!
    I'm a 3b, with 3c underneath.

Used to be CG, now I'm not. Using Suave Aloe & Waterlily shampoo & condish, JoiWhip, BRHG, Suave Aloe gel, Aussie Tizz No Frizz, and anything else that looks good!

    o. cool.. so what about your face wash? could that have been doing any damage?

Hmmm....I don't think it's my face wash. I typically use black soap to cleanse my face, along with the occasional oil cleanse. All that controls my oiliness very nicely.

I don't have overly sensitive skin, but I used to get cysts quite often.
I make my own nighttime moisturizer by melting together shea butter, cocoa butter, and jojoba oil. I also use black soapand oils to cleanse. I've had very few cysts since using these for about 6 months.

Hey, I do this too, except instead of cocoa butter I use extra-virgin olive oil along with the shea butter and jojoba oil. I also add some Co-enzyme Q-10 gel and vegetable glycerin to my formula. Makes a great basic night cream, and is very soothing to boot. I've healed up skin irritations with this, which is what I'm doing now after a foray into using some Aquaglycolic alpha-hydroxy cream. Somehow, my skin can take an AHA cleanser and toner, but not an AHA cream - instant irritation, even with a fragrance-free product!

I find that a light application of a buttery cream as a nighttime moisturizer does wonders for my dry skin; I even use a little bit during the day in the winter time.
My absolute favorite moisterizer is Oyin's [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Oyin-Handmade-Whipped-Pudding-p-353.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=oyin-whipped-pudding]whipped pudding[/buylink]; I've been using this everyday on my face faithfully for almost a year, and my skin is loving it :love1:

I use raw shea butter on my eyelids (makes a great eyemake-up base) and either that or shealoe butter on my neck and chin at night. Gotta try this:

I also love shealoe or SheaMoisture body lotion for my skin.

I found a link to a site where it mentions this. I don't know if the bag balm is all she uses but I do know that she eats a very strict and clean diet, which probably means no junk food, sugar, so I would assume that also contributes to her great skin.
