3A's, 3B's and Length

As my hair is getting longer, my curl is looser. This is supposed to be a normal thing for a 3B. I try to fight it, but I expect it.

But, if a 3A gets curlier as she gets longer, I have wondered if there was some point where a long haired 3A looks about the same as a long haired 3B.

Just some odd late night musings.....

maybe they meet at shoulder length? lol i still think all hair looks curliest at shorter lengths but maybe i just have a strange definition of curly. In fact I've seen people on this website who call themselves 2's with very curly hair and i've seen people on here who say that they're 3c's (probably not 4) with loose curls.

I am 3a, thin and fine. My curl doesn't start till about 2.5 inches from the root, then it is loose curls that spiral at the ends like a phone cord. If I don't have shorter layers or alot of layers, then as my hair gets longer my hair forms what I call tube curls. Several separate long phone cord curls, but it doesn't get any curlier or tighter, just a longer continued spiral of the same loose texture. I don't think I could ever look 3B because of my flat crown and the looseness. I never got to bra strap length I ended up a few inches short and caved in to getting it cut.

I seem to cave in to getting it cut when it gets below shoulder length. My stylist (who is CG trained) said the 3A curls I have underneath should curl more the longer it gets. However, my hair is also quite thin, and it starts to look too thin when it gets below shoulder length. So I don't give it a chance to get the length that will make it curl more. I think for 3Bs, the curl gets looser as it gets longer since it's coarser; the coarseness adds weight. Since 3A doesn't have as much weight, it springs more. I don't think that really answers your question, but just adding some food for thought.

    Interesting thought.

My hair is kind of an odd mix, but people would call it 3b. I find that it does get looser as it grows, and I also find that the ends are curlier, which is kind of odd. My shortest pieces of hair (I have some random natural layers) are the curliest, which, of course, makes them even shorter than they already are.

That is me. Looking at my curls from last year, I can see how my longer curls from this year are looser. I've only had two cuts in the last year, so it has grown out some.

If it weren't for that the fact that my curl does start fairly high up, I would question the 3B-ness I was so sure of this time last year.

That sounds just like my hair/my thoughts! Girl, we have such similar hair!

I looked at your newest photos. Gawd I love your hair!

I think your curls are still way too tight to be a 3A. Sometimes I wish I could get my hair curlier.

If you don't mind, tell me what your abbreviations stand for. I'm curious what you were using in your August 07 album.

Funny, I wish I could bump up to 3C oftentimes. The grass is greener I guess.

For me, it detangels even better than EMBC. It is also light and makes a good leave-in. There is a thread over in the reviews board about it.

AOHR is Aubrey Organics Honeysuckle Rose Conditioner. From what I've read, it is a love-hate product. It is thick, rich, heavy, loaded with oils and shea butter, and protein free.It works well for me, but I could see where others would get weighed down or oil coated. It smells lovely.

[buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Kinky-Curly-Curling-Custard-p-778.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=kinkycurly-curling-custard]KCCC[/buylink] - [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Kinky-Curly-Curling-Custard-p-778.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=kinkycurly-curling-custard]Kinky Curly Curling Custard[/buylink]. Another love-hate product around here. I use it like a gel. It doesn't have a hard hold like SMU or BRHG. It does seems to keep my curls in place reasonably well for a soft hold, and it helps with hair softness in general.

I slept un-pineappled last night and woke up with great hair this morning (except for some flattening/rumpling in the back), so I guess the combo works for me - at least until the seasons change!

if it's a high dew point day, I'll use some CK ([buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Curly-Hair-Solutions-Curl-Keeper-p-28.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=curly-hair-solutions-curl-keeper]Curl Keeper[/buylink]) over the leave-in and under the [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Kinky-Curly-Curling-Custard-p-778.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=kinkycurly-curling-custard]KCCC[/buylink].

    So, on a regular day
KCNT - detangle and co wash
AOHR - as a rinse out form about chin length down. I've often needed something rich since I'm fairly coarse and thick
    KCNT as a leave in

I have no idea. I always thought I was a 3a but when I cut my hair it was so much curlier! I don't think my curls are tight enough to qualify for 3b so my theory has always been that my hair is so thick that it just pulls the curl out when it's longer.

<shrug> I just go with it.

No, 3As tend to get curlier as our hair grows but it only goes so far. Also, just like with 3Bs, at a certain stage the weight of the hair will drag out some of the curl.

I've been wanting to let my hair grow longer this time around but after a certain length it just gets so blah :blah5: So I will probably get frustrated with it and end up getting it cut. Shoulder length or shorter always gives me the best, bounciest curls.

Btw, RRC, your hair IS absolutely beautiful! I was also checking out your headband pics since I just can't seem to get them to work for me. My hair flops out on the sides :?

i have found that this happens with my hair - which is 3b. i can only let the layers go so long before it gets heavy and my curls lose their spring and bounce and the ringlets become more wavy and less curly. i have one layer in the back that's long, but all the others are short range from chin length to shoulder length.
