Crockpot mush?

i have a new crockpot (Rival) and everything ive ever made in it has turned to mush. i read somewhere that in the 60s-70s crockpots didnt heat as high so the food wasnt mushy. but because we're afraid of getting sick, salmonella, etc. that the new crockpots of today heat up much faster and higher

    If you have a low/high setting, set it to low. Or if not, then don't let it cook as long. I have one that only has on/off, so it cooks on high all the time. If it's on high, you have to reduce cooking time. At either setting, it's cooking at a lower temp than an oven, so it shouldn't turn to mush unless you're leaving it too long.
