Recs needed - foundation for very dry, sensitive skin

MassCurlsMassCurls Posts: 272Registered Users
I'm having an awful time with my foundation. I have extremely dry skin and it's peeling under my foundation. I'm using Bobbi Brown's stick foundation currently (her other foundations are too yellow for me, with the exception of the one designed for combo skin which made me break out), but I'm thinking I need a good liquid foundation at this point in the winter (the stick's fine for summer). I have very sensitive skin (gets red thinking about being irritated), prone to acne, extremely dry yet oily (gotta love meds!) and I'm VERY pale (traditional red head with white skin).

Can anyone recommend a good foundation to try that will run light enough for my skin tone? Drugstore and non-drugstore rec's welcome.

TIA!

what about just using a creamy concealer where you need it most?

do you know your MAC shade, MC? that would help me a bit.

    i'm NC/NW 15/20.

    Hey Rou!

I'm a NC10 (I think that's the lightest one - it's been a while since I wore MAC foundations; I used to use the one that could go on wet or dry as a powder, but I don't remember what it was called). In BB I wear porcelain.

I'm only putting the foundation where I need it - and that's where it's flaking :( I have the BB concealer, which works beautifully to cover but it flakes as well.

I hate winter. Too much dry skin.

Edited to add that I've tried using both a foundation brush and a makeup sponge - both seem to make the flaking worse.

Have you tried the BB EXTRA moisturizing balm makeup? Also, Prescriptives is more pink based than BB, but quality and non-irritating. Prescriptives would be my choice if my undertones weren't yellow.

    Studio Fix.

i'll poke around for you this weekend, MC, but right now i'm going to suggest Shiseido off the top of my head because i know they have some pale foundations and they are supposed to have some good products for "mature" , aka dry, skin.

CC, what about Prescriptives yellow and yellow-orange family? or colour-matching service?

I think Bobbi Brown Foundations are terrible. They do the same thing on me. I have bought three versions and taken all of them back.

I have had good luck with Lancome Color ID foundation and my skin's very sensitive. They have three undertone families and many shades within those families. I have very pale skin, yet I'm not even wearing their palest color.

    Rouqinne,

I never tried the color matching service. I thought it would be very expensive. I had a difficult time getting color matched at Prescriptives, but my skin responded really well to the product itself.

    Mrspoppers,

I'm surprised you don't like BB. But, I must say that I have extremely oily skin, so maybe that's why. Hmmm.

Thanks for all the great ideas. Good to know I'm not the only one with a foundation challenge :)

I picked up some Sue Devitt Triple Whip at Sephora tonight. The color match was good, and it's supposed to be good for sensitive skin. We'll see how it goes (they were all out of the Shiseido foundations, athough the colors looked like they'd be great). Worst case I'll bring it back if it doesn't work or irritates my skin.

I'll let you all know how it works out.
