Best clarifiers? Cheapest ones?

I keep reading that buildup interferes with our hair retaining moisture and general health/appearance.

What are some good clarifiers? Any cheap, homemade ones? How often/when should we clarify?

The only clarifiers that I use are homemade. I usually mix a small amount of baking soda with conditioner. Then rinse it out really well.

Scratch your scalp and look under your fingernail. If you see a lot of buildup, then it's time to clarify.

Not just your scalp, but your hair can have build-up and you can't scratch that. But if you are using more product than usual, if your hair is not absorbing water as well; it it feels crispy or hard, then you may have build-up. Conditioner and lemon juice? A non-sulfate shampoo (if you don't have any silicones).

I use Suave Daily Clarifying with good success. I hear that there's a Suave Professional Clarifying, which I would like to try. I usually clarify once a month.

I've used Avalon Organics Lemon and Shea Butter Clarifying Shampoo. Seems to work fine to revive my hair after buildup.

I used to use Nexxus Aloe Rid, but now I strictly use Suave Daily Clarifying. I always buy the family size, it lasts about 2 years.
    Coily and cute.
