Best "drugstore" leave-ins?

lazy loopslazy loops Posts: 8,792Registered Users
I'm starting to watch the almighty dollar & only purchase products that can be found at places like Walgreens, Wal-Mart & the like.

When thinking ahead to what I'm going to replace my ABBA Nourishing Leave-in or [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Elucence-Moisture-Balancing-Conditioner-p-39.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=elucence-elucence-moisture-balancing-conditioner]Elucence Moisture Balancing[/buylink] leave-in/rinse-out Conditioner with, I have no idea!

I think Laurabeth's Conditioner Chronicles thread only covers rinse-out conditioners, except for Elucence.

Then the search function here pulls up 1424 results for "drugstore leave-in", 383 for "drugstore", and 1059 for "leave-in". I can't wade through all those.

So, who's willing to give the low-down once again for best "drugstore" leave-in conditioners/moisturizers?

Thanks in advance!

Garnier Fructis is a favorite around here. I'm liking PM The Conditioner which I can get at Rite Aid. It's a bit on the more expensive side for drugstore but it comes in a huge bottle and all I really needs is a dime size dollop.

I keep searching in hopes of finding the elusive good DS leave-in but I've come up empty handed. I used to like Giovanni's Direct Leave-in but while I have no problem finding the regular conditioners at grocery stores, I can never find either of their leave-ins! :(
The only true drugstore leave-in I've heard really good things about would be the GF stuff but my hair begs to differ, unfortunately.
I used to like Aussie's spray leave-in (Hair Insurance ?)but I haven't used it in years so I have no idea what's in it now or if it's still any good. If you like a light leave-in it might be worth a try since it's cheap and returnable. I think this one and the 3MM might be the only ones to have survived through all the reformulations and line changes. I must investigate...

Would Sally's be included in this category since their stuff is generally in the same price range as some of the DS stuff and they're all over the place.

    *ETA*
No such luck... looks like they got to the Hair Insurance too. It's mostly amodimethicone, polyquat, and castor oil now. :(

If you areCG, don't read any further..........

I've always liked BTZ Noodlehead and really loved Loreal Nature's Therapy Perfect Curls Cream. The Nature's therapy line is supposed to be the same as Kerastase but less expensive

I have the same problem finding Giovanni's, but it's only in health food stores where I live. I thought I found the one you mentioned, but it was another. I didn't care for it being a spray either.

Sally's would work, if the gals who work there didn't act like they have a piece of wood jammed up their butts.

    So it's a cream leave-in conditioner, or a styler?

IMO, I would say nothing. For the years and years that I've been obsessed w/ my hair, I've never been able to find anything worthwhile at drugstores. The best I've come up with is health food store buys. I think Trader Joes Nourish Spa is the BEST conditioner I've ever used. I've yet to find a good leave in, but I don't think I'd find it in a drugstore. And I'm still looking for that perfect product.

And we don't have that store in UT.

There's PM Generic The conditioner at Sally Beauty, and Beauty Without Cruelty Leavein (I got for $6.99 at drugstore.com, but I believe Whole foods sells it). The PM's not bad, I haven't yet tried the BWC. Giovannie Direct Leave-in

It is a cream styler but I find that when I use it , I don't need a leave in -does this make sense?

I have a bottle of the GF Curl and Shine Leave in and I really, really don't like it. It makes my hair way to producty, like putting Elmer's Glue in my hair.

Have you tried wetting it down, mixing some water with it to make it thinner?

I think I'm going to get the Curl & Shine, maybe even the Sleek & Shine too after doing searches for "Garnier" on the Reviews (102 results) & Gen Discussions boards (375 results).

Now I just need to use up my ABBA. I'm using my Elucence as a rinse-out.

Me too. Maybe I'll try watering it down. But it seems that people who do like it, lay it on thick.

    Okay, just checking! :)

I used it for probably a year and a half a while back - I loved it combined w/ CK. I swore by it for a long time, but it's only great if you're wearing your hair really curly, w/ product - but my hair isn't very soft and touchable when I use it. Plus, I think it makes my hair feel thicker, or bigger, if that makes any sense.
