Does omega-3 make hair grow faster?

MintMint Posts: 1,143Registered Users
I have heard a lot of good things about the health benefits of omega-3 fatty acids (I want to try them), and I was wondering: Do they speed up hair growth as well?
2a/M-C/ii hair. Super long.

Yes I would love an answer to that question. Growing my hair out for the first time in my life (I am 21 - have spent my entire life with really short (2-inches long) hair) so I would like to speed up the process. It's hard to check progress because curls decrease hair length by 30%.
    Hair Type: Literally b/w 3a, 3b & 3c (depends on my hair's mood)
Hair Care: Shikakai (great for prolonging your natural colour - my grandmother used it & NEVER went grey) & coconut oil, overnight, 'poo & leave-in conditioner.

I think they help because I take Fish Oil and Flaxseed Oil etc.,and I feel they have helped with growth.

I totally love the flaxseed. I put it in my shakes, cereal ect. and I have noticed a change in at least the health of my hair. Another thing you can try is the acai berry (juice ect.) its really good for skin/hair health and you can pick it up at any natural food store. Infact there was a write up about it a few months agoe in naturally curly. I have found using these and the no-poo routine my hair has been growing a lot more, I started off with shoulder/chin length and its now down to my elbows. Yay! :)
    Low Porosity-Medium Density

Hair loves all sorts of proteins...my curls come to life in hot humid weather!

I second Dreamcurlz! Flax seed is SO good for you - not just your hair! I use ground flax seed (got it at WalMart) on my cereal and add it to my baking. I found Narually more PeanutButter at WalMart as well (I have small kids that eat alot of PB) that is made with flax seed oil and whole flax seeds in it, so I eat that too. I add flax seed oil to anything I can. I guess I'm a health food junkie! LOL!
