Help me find a work out!!

Charming NotionCharming Notion Registered Users Posts: 697
Okay, I'm looking to slim down this summer and reach a medium by the end of August!! Not sure how much I weight now, but I'm guessing around 195? But anyway, I'm looking for an effective workout. I have a few DVDs and I use Netflix so anything you can reccomend I can probably get. So far here's what I have;

-Denise Austin Hit the Spot Pilates
-Yoga Zone: Gentle Yoga for Beginners
-The Biggest Loser Workout
-MTV Power Yoga

I also have Joyce Vedrall's Toning for Teens, and I'm planning to add the lower body workout to anything thing I do, plus time on the elliptical. Thanks in adavance!

I lost 63 lbs. with Turbo Jam ... one year later, I still love it and find it completely energizing :)

What are the TurboJam workouts like? Are they on Netflix (which I don't have, just curious)? Did you get yours off the beachbody website?

I've read a lot of negative feedback on the customer service at beachbody, that's why I'm asking all the questions. I've been stalking the beachbody website for a few months now but I haven't bought anything. A sale might tip me over the edge, I don't know. It looks like a good program.

The Turbo Jam program totally rocks ... customer service at Beachbody, however, sucks like you wouldn't believe. I had such a run-in with their Customer Service department last summer, they probably have voodoo dolls with my name on them that they stick pins in every 30 minutes or so. That said, I personally feel Turbo Jam is worth the aggravation of dealing with Beachbody. This is probably way more than you want to know, but for what it's worth, here is my $.02:

Turbo Jam combines strength training and cardio with such hot dance music, your body moves whether you want it to move or not. I do two Turbo Jam workouts every day, back to back, six days a week, for a total of 60-65 minutes a day. The music is completely motivating and the best I’ve ever heard in any exercise program. When I’m working out, I am so pumped and I hit those beats so hard, every muscle in my body works to the max. And those 60 minutes just fly by. I am a red-faced, sweaty, dripping mess by the time I am done – and I feel so good, I almost wish I could start over again.

Part of what makes it so fun is Chalene Johnson, the program creator and the instructor on the tapes. She is an absolute hoot, a total goof and a 5’2” ball of fire. She’s not one of those “woo-woo” instructors either – you know, the ones you see on TV who do little but jump up and down in their cute, color-coordinated outfits and yell, “Woo! Woo!” every ten seconds, until you are ready to b*tch-slap them into unconsciousness. Chalene is very different and she has a reputation for genuinely caring about the people who use her program.

There are several workouts in the Turbo Jam program. When you buy the basic package, you get:

Learn and Burn – teaches you the 11 program positions and has a 15-minutes starter workout.
Turbo Sculpt – a 40-minute strength training program.
20-Minute Workout – a quick workout for “short on time” days
    AB Jam – a 20-minute ab routine
    Cardio Party – a 45-minute cardio workout

I would recommend this program to anyone ... although you may want to search eBay to see if you can find the basic program without having to deal with Beachbody.

Hope this gives you the "sales tip" you need :)

    Congratulations on 63 lbs lost!

Just curious...how long did it take for you to lose 63 lbs with TurboJam? Did you also follow a "diet"?

It took me about eight months and I did follow an eating plan, but one I designed myself. I've found it to be much more effective than any of the "diets" out there and I even get one day to eat however I want:

Two days (Monday, Thursday) - eat like I'm training (oatmeal, egg whites, grilled chicken, fish, sweet potatoes, green veggies, salad only)

Two days (Tuesday, Saturday) - eat clean but not as restrictive as the training diet (add limited amounts of whole grains, low-sugar fruits, low-fat milk, nuts)

Two days ( Wednesday, Friday) - eat clean all day, but allow one small treat during the course of the day (maybe a piece of chocolate after a meal or a small bowl of ice cream with crushed walnuts in the evening)

One day (Sunday) - Go Crazy Day ... anything goes and all bets are off!

I forgot to add that I eat six small meals a day, about 1,500 - 1,800 calories total. That might seem a high number of calories if you are used to a traditional diet, but it's actually healthier, keeps you from "plateauing" and lets you lose more weight in the end.
