Straight issues under curls

ACHACH Posts: 245Registered Users
Ok 2s li'l help here...my hair is in long layers. I have a nice very wavy thing going most days and even curly some days. By the end of any day the underneath in back is poker straight. The straigtness sticking out from under there looks ridiculous with such nice wavy full hair on top. The layering isn't so long that it is weighing down the underneath. If the top layers were any shorter it would look weird. Anyone know how to fix this?

Just thought of a possible reason
Cubicle confession: Sometimes I sink down really low in my chair to work so others can't see me if they peek over their cubicle walls. Thus, giving me straight ends. I think I'll be able to live with the straightness if it brings me peace in my 3 walled haven.

I have the opposite problem - top layers get straight, bottom layers get curly.

If you don't already, you might want to try applying all your hair products (including conditioner) with your head upside down. Maybe you aren't getting enough product on those lower layers??? Or, if you already do upside down, try the other way because maybe your getting too much product on the bottom layer.

You could also try pin curling (or something like that) he bottom layer.

ACH - I have the exact same thing. I think it's just the longest, heaviest part of my hair so the curl just gets pulled out. It's also flattened by the other hair laying on top of it.

No help to offer really - just, I feel your pain.
Extremely fine 2b/3a. My frizz has tamed considerably but, I still have my "moments."

Just giving you a big (((HUG))) and letting you know I have the same problem. I have thick hair and the underside is just not able to wave. It was much better when my hair was shorter, but I like the new length too much to give it up.

Here in the last few days I have been using CK and it seems to help a little. I have also become a little more conscious of leaning back on it in my office chair

Same thing happens to me, and I keep trying to get my stylist to cut the bottom layer shorter and start the layers higher up, but she just never does it the way I want it. I also think that plopping on top of your head stretches out the bottom layer.

wow, that's exactly how my hair is. I had a layered cut, curly on top, straight on the bottom so I had the longer layer cut to match the shoter one. Unfortunetly, the stylist wasn't too experienced in cutting curly hair so it still sticks out a little. I also hate it when I pull some of my hair in front, and some in back, because the straight part sticks out in between! I think part of it is because (well, at least my hair) is super thick so when it is drying the heaviness causes pressure on the bottom layers of hair, making it straight. I don't know, that's just my personal theory. :) I'm thinking of buying a diffuser so i can get it to dry faster (because right now it takes over three hours!) to see if that helps to fix the problem.
new to cg and still looking for a good product.

    very thick and frizzy
hair underneath is straight/wavy, possibly from my hair being layered...

I am into week 4 of CG and this issue is really starting to improve. My ends in the back actually still have curl to them this evening! My hair is long layers in back and the one underneath is the one I was having the trouble with. I think it is/was just part of the adjustment process for me.

Even though I've learned to live with it, I still wish the underneath layer of hair at my neck had more texture. :crybaby:

The straight part is probably less noticeable then you think unless you have really fine hair. Most people will probably only see the curls on top so you shouldnt worry about it.

I have the same problem with the back of my hair.I noticed the the plopping and hanging upside down actually stretches that under layer. I still do it but once i unplop here's what i do.

I lay on my bed with my head hanging off the edge. (my face is facing the ceiling, top of my head toward the wall). Then I scrunch some [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/AG-Recoil-p-24.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=ag-hair-cosmetics-recoil-curl-activator]re:coil[/buylink] into the back of my hair. i keep scrunching with my towel. this allows me to scrunch up towrd the back of my head, similar to the way i can when i dangle my head sideways. i hope that made sense. My husband think im a nut but the back of my hair looks better.

That sounds like a great idea. My husband already thinks I've gone totally off the deep end when it comes to my hair so he won't find one more trick strange at all. :laughing9:
