Hey Denise...yes, I was expecting the AO Mandarin Jelly to work well but so far I've been disappointed. It does nothing at all for my hair, but I'll keep experimenting with it. It's too thin to give me good curl definition. My hair seems to need heavier products to hold the curl.

In terms of Miss Jessies....the [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Miss-Jessies-Curly-Pudding-p-578.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=miss-jessies-curly-pudding]Curly Pudding[/buylink] and [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Miss-Jessies-Curly-Meringue-p-576.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=miss-jessies-curly-meringue]Curly Meringue[/buylink] are both for curl definition. The Meringue is thicker than the Pudding and has more hold. I've used both for curl definition and two strand twists and they worked well for me. The CP has a strong fragrance, but I believe they now have an uncented one. But beware....the new formulations include mineral oil/petrolatum now. The Baby Buttercream is a moisturizer and I use it for 2nd and 3rd day hair.

I use my Denman brush to either detangle or to distribute styling products (Fantasia IC and Miss Jessie's). I get great clumps with the Back to Basics Conditioner and I brush small sections of my hair with the Denman to detangle/clump the curls. Depending on the thickness of your hair, it might be better to detangle first with a wide tooth comb to avoid putting too much stress on the hair with the Denman brush. I try to avoid disrupting the curl pattern when I rinse and blot my hair dry. While styling, I separate my hair into about 8 sections or so and apply product, brush and then hold the elongated curls for a second before slowing releasing the brush from the hair. This elongates and clump the curls nicely! HTH!!

Oh!! Yes, the AO is much lighter. My hair gets stiff with a lot of hold. :shock:

I've been thinking about trying Miss jessie's but wasn't sure on which to get. I think I will try the Babybutter cream as I've been on the HUNT for a new daily moisturizer!

I am also a pen-spring 4a and Aveda Brillant shampoo and conditioner was horrible for me. I am actually lo-poo so I don't use shampoo often but that is what was given to me as the most appropriate combo for textured ethnic hair. Ugh! The shampoo made my hair feel like it had been washed with dishwashing liquid! It actually squeaked!! The conditioner really didn't condition. I was surprised by this and felt a bit betrayed since the other Aveda products like the Brilliant gel and the gloss both behaved as advertised. I am going to try a the Smooth Infusion conditioner followed by the Hang straight lotion (air drying no blow dry) to see if I can get slightly looser defined curls.

I tried Be Curly conditioner and it actually did exactly what it promised to define my curls with no frizz but made them shrink quite a bit (which is saying something since I have pen-springs to start with!). :roll:

I like the hair milk better and also the hair cream - use it like JC Nourish & Shine. The nectar is a bit too light and watery.
