Somewhat scared 4a/b :)

I'm Tonya and I'm newly transitioning. I took out my weave (glue-in) a few weeks ago after realizing it was controlling my life and have been contemplating going natural. I'm going to do it--I bought Curly Girl yesterday and have been reviewing several natural forums for about two weeks.

Backstory: Had relaxer for as long as I can remember, relaxed hair (myself) every 5-6 weeks, hair doesn't grow very long (when relaxed), and tired of being a slave to the strands on my head!

It's been great seeing that there is a community out there for people who woke up one day and realized, "You know, I don't have to relax my hair...hmm..." Like others, I'd been brainwashed to think I couldn't do anything with my hair if I didn't have a relaxer in it. However, I'm a little overwhelmed about what to do or buy--there's so much info out there! :D However, since it takes forever to grow my hair, I guess I have a lot of time to do research. Take care!

Last Relaxer: 5/6/07 (relaxing since childhood and I've always had short hair)
Hair Type: 4a/b (not sure yet)

What a wonderful post! Congratulations on your big decision -- I know it's a hard one, but every single person we've talked to has been thrilled they went natural and never looked back.
