RAVE for Bodyshop Honey Shampoo and Conditioner

GrecianCurlsGrecianCurls Posts: 256Registered Users
Just thought i'd share how much I love this stuff!! I've had a months worth of consistently great hair days!!!! The conditioner reminds me alittle of the moptop conditioner but doesn't weigh my hair down like mop top does.

The contents are listed on the website (bodyshop.co.uk / bodyshop.com), by the looks of things the A cone is a lot lower down the ingredients list in the UK than in the US... weird! the condish has banana pulp, honey, brazil / olive and sesame oil in it... yum :D
fine 3b curls and spirals - first goal BSL!!

HG's - Body Shop Honey shampoo & conditioner and Shea Moisture leave-in condish which gives me lovely frizz-free bouncy curls. My PJ is calling me to experiment with gels again... argh!

The one time I had a chance to pick this up locally, I was on strict CG and because it had the "A" cone I didn't get it. Now I totally regret it because it seems like it has a lot of wonderful ingredients. I love stuff that has banana pulp in it (which not much does, but it seems to really help moisturize).

Glad you are having great hair days with it!

Would you need a sulphate poo to get the A cone out?

No, for the most part co-washing gets it out for me or a low poo such as Deva's low poo with coco betaine in it, which is gentle, no sulphates.

I use the honey shampoo as well, its sulphate free, the cleansing ingredients are Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate (Surfactant) and Sodium Methyl Cocoyl Taurate (Surfactant) which i think are very gentle.

p.s. sorry for being an enabler :D

I used to use the conditioner and loved it. I didn't know the shampoo was sulphate free!

i'm so easily swayed... I picked this up today. I managed to restrain myself to just getting the smaller bottles... a trial size of the shampoo, since I won't use a whole lot, and the smaller bottle of conditioner. I'm using it tomorrow morning. Can't wait!

Well, I think we have a winner!

I used both the shampoo and conditioner this morning. The poo was really gentle, and rich and thick. It got my hair nice and clean, but without the squeaky, 'uh oh, I've killed my hair' noise. And the conditioner was thick, creamy, luscious, and left my hair SO soft all day! I got, like, three compliments on my hair today. This combo seems to be very curl enhancing... I have bigger clumps and more big fat spirals instead of waves. AND they smell awesome. Sorta honey-ish, but also nutty and lightly musky. Very appealing.

This shampoo and conditioner team kicks the butt of my former favorite, Elucence. And I can get this nearby, instead of paying shipping!

I hope these results keep up, because I think I might have a new favorite!

"the cleansing ingredients are Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate (Surfactant) and Sodium Methyl Cocoyl Taurate (Surfactant) which i think are very gentle. "

Will those ingredients work to remove stuff like dimethiconol and amodimethicone, or do I need something with coco(?) betaine or stronger? I've been doing CG but I want to experiment with the Suave Anti-Frizz cream and G&S Curl & Shine leave in, but I don't know what I need to get rid of any eventual 'cone buildup. I've been reading all the shampoo threads, but if the Bodyshop Honey will work, it sounds great and easily available. Another I'm considering is one of the Trader Joe shampoos. Thanks for any advice.

Hi there, I'm about 99% sure it'll get the A cone and dimethiconol out! I've experimented a little with the A cone whilst using this shampoo and i haven't experienced any build up.

Oh no! I love Elucence! I kinda got over my PJ habits, but now I'm DYING to try this if it 's better than Elucence! And you do bring up a good point: I won't have to pay shipping.

ETA: The Lanolin kind of throws me off, it's in both the Honey Shampoo and Conditioner.

I picked up the shampoo today. I couldn't read the ingredients on the bottle at the store (there are like a zillion, in three languages, in the teeeeniest damn type!). Now I see that the shampoo has dimethicone in it. Why? Why put silicone in shampoo? Why???

The only reason I'm buying shampoo is because I'm playing around with a few styling products with amodimethicone and dimethiconol, and I need something that will get them out if I get buildup. Otherwise, I'm doing CO washes only. So it doesn't make any sense to use a 'poo that has dimethicone in it. Guess I'll be making a trip back to the Body Shop to return this stuff. :x

Anyone have a rec for a nice 'poo that's easily available that's gentle but will remove those cones? One that isn't full of sulfates OR cones? Would the Trader Joe 'poos work? I can't find the ingredients listed anywhere. Help?

oops, i didn't spot that (think the small writing had me!), i'm not sure what Phenethyl Dimethicone is though? Oh well, i like this stuff enough for me to keep using it anyway. Curlycaramels testimony of years of use is evidence enough for me  I guess that makes me very modified CG!!

    Grecian Curls,

I don't know what the "phenethyl" is, either, and I couldn't find it in that NC article with all the ingredients listed & their function. So maybe it is something that neutralizes the bad effects of the dimethicone -- or so we can hope! All in all, the proof is in the pudding, or hair -- if it works well for you, that's what matters.
I picked up the TJ's Spa Nourish shampoo today, because it's all organic botanicals, along with cleansing agents sodium olefin sulfonate and cocamidoproply betaine. It smells nice, and it's *cheap* so I think it'll work for me for now. I can return the honey shampoo to the Body Shop and I'll have $10 to spend elsewhere on hair gel! :)

Unfortunately we're pretty sure that's a non water soluble cone. Since there's that, amodimethicone, and lanolin you'll wanna keep an eye out for build up for sure.

Well, you occasionally shampoo so it is! :) It's only an issue for strict CGers who don't go anywhere near a surfectant of any sort.
You just have to monitor the build up so you know how often you need to 'poo and whether coco betaine is enough or if you do need a sulfate.

Should be ok. Might wanna keep an eye out for any dryness since it does have a drying alcohol 'round the middle of the list but other than that...

    Follow up review!

After a week of use, I still think the conditioner is fantastic. Despite it being thick and creamy, it doesn't weigh my hair down. And I've not noticed any buildup, since I poo every few days. I even used it as a leave-in this morning! My hair's super-smooth right now. And frizz has been no problem since I started using this stuff. Everything else in my routine is the same, just with better results. I've had better results with this one than any other conditioner I've tried.

The shampoo, however, might be a bit harsh to use with any frequency. I noticed I was getting a bit dry with using it every other day. It's still more gentle than a lot of other shampoos I've used, but it's not as gentle as Elucence MBS. I don't know if that means I'll end up still buying the Elucence, or just using this less frequently.
