What's the longest time anyone has gone without a haircut?

What's the longest time anyone here has gone without a haircut, in the name of growing out one's hair? Right now, I'm at 4 months, and hoping to make it to at least 2-3 more before I have a trim!

Do you mean while transitioning or just in general? Cuz in my life the longest I've gone is 3 yrs, but since transitioning and growing out my relaxed hair the most I've waited is 4 months. That was because the ends were very damaged and its easier for me to wash & go if my ends are trimmed.

My goal is to grow out my hair 100% natural and then after that not cut it for 4 yrs. I know I can do it because a friend of mine did that and her hair (3c) is down to her waist.

I've gone years with out trimming my hair. Right now, I think I'm going to do twice yearly trims. My ends look really good, so I don't see the need for anything more frequent.

Actually, I meant going the longest time in between haircuts/trims. A couple of days ago, I trimmed my bangs, as they really needed it, but the rest of my hair is NOT being cut at all for awhile yet! I know alot of curly people don't have bangs, but on me, at my age, bangs do really look better(they aren't really curly, which helps!)

Wow, that's pretty amazing. My cousin who also is a curly waited a little over 2 years, but 4 years! I am afraid of the splits. The longest I've waited was 1 year and when I went for a trim, the stylist told me that I really didn't need it. The ends still looked very healthy. Does that mean that I can go a little over a year? hmmm :)

I've gone a year and a half without a haircut or a trim, although sometimes I'd sit at my desk while doing math and cut any split ends I happened to see. my last haircut was 6 months ago, when I chopped 10 inches...and now I kind of wish I hadn't, but I've grown back about 4 and I like this shape better.....I'm watching my ends but no splitting yet. When there is then I'll trim it.

It's been 7 months since my last haircut. The longest I've gone is a year inbetween trims. I'm trying to wait longer. It's good to know others have been able to go so long without trims!

Wow, I'm a wimp. I think the longest I've EVER gone is 6 months, but usually I go every 3-4 months.

After growing out my TR hair for 1 year, I chopped it all off (up to the curly growth) and am now 3 mos without a cut.

I hope to grow out my hair for another year or more before getting it cut again.

Curly hair seems to grow so slow! It takes 2" of straight hair to equal 1" of curly hair, it seems. :(

    Thanks!

After my last horrible hair cut when i was 17 I just kinda didn't go anymore to get it cut. I'm currently trying to set up an appt. with Cala Renee in mass to get a devacut and trim it up a little bit because I feel like its starting to take over the world.

I only cut my hair once a year, normally before summer begins. I didn't do that this summer though, so I'm probably going to wait either until this winter or next summer to cut it again. I don't really have a problem with splits, so I mostly cut it to even up the ends since some parts are curlier than others.

Nearly twelve years, as of now.

Last time I got my hair cut, way back in high school, they gave me an awful bob that made my hair frizz out like a giant mushroom cap. In self defense, I haven't been back to the salon yet.

That changes tomorrow, though. I made myself an appointment to get it cut, and I'm going in curly. (and not letting them touch shampoo to my hair, either!)

Isolinde and Notinabottle - have you had hair cuts yet? I am so curious since you both have gone so long.

I have gone 7-8 months top. But I always keep it shorter - shoulder length. I dont get split ends easily and other than some diffusing I dont do anything 'bad' for my hair so it usually pretty healthy.

Just got back from my cut!

I -love- it. He didn't take any length off at all (my hair only grows to about mid back naturally), but added some really long layers that are giving my curl a lot more bounce. At least right now, it looks like it's going to give my curls more room to form, since my hair is pretty thick, and usually weighs them down a bit. We'll see how it works when I'm the one styling it, though, and not a pro. *worries*

Oh that's soo good!!! I am very happy for you that it went well. I think we are usually better at styling our own hair so I am sure you will do fine.

Good for you! I want to see photos!

This makes me feel a little better when thinking about getting a haircut. It's been about 2 years since I had it cut at a salon (I trim it myself). I'm nervous about going anywhere and there are no Deva stylists around here (not that I follow the curly girl routine strictly.) I think in the past I have gone years between cuts. In fact, before that last one, I think I went 3 years (since before my wedding). The cut I got 2 years ago was very good (and was not a dry cut), but it was right after I discovered this board, and I hadn't found a routine that worked for me yet.

I can't decide whether I should cut my hair to shoulder length in the front again or keep growing it and see how it goes.

You're right! *is excited* I did it myself this morning, and it looks even better than yesterday. This is better than I had hoped.

I wish I could post photos, but my stupid digicam is broken at the moment. If I get it fixed in the near future, I'll definitely post some. :)

My guy isn't deva-trained, and he did cut it wet, but he knew exactly how it was going to affect my curls. He told me they'd have more room to bounce, and that's exactly what it is. (I'm 3a, and also getting more curl at the root now, yay!) Between the different care and all the vitamins I'm taking now, he thinks it's going to be able to grow longer than before. *crosses her fingers*

Good luck with your decision on whether to cut or not!

10 years with no trims or anything, and last 2 years only microtrims/dusting, as needed. but I now Im in a sort of club "no trims til may of 08" on another board and so it's been since maybe feb or march since my last trim don't really remember if I trimed at all this year really.

Gosh, that makes my current venture look like it started yesterday. Last hair cut was in late January of this year, and I've just been trimming bangs myself! I'd sure like to keep this going, and so far it's been going well. I'm saving boatloads of money by not having my hair trimmed every 2.5 months too. I'll see how this is at the 1-year anniversary mark. One lady with great naturally-curly hair I saw recently hadn't had her hair cut in 2 years(she had had a disastrous haircut which really made her shy away from anyone with scissors!).

I haven't trimmed or cut my hair in 10 years,I haven't had any split ends or breakage,so that's why.As long as I stay on my vitamins I'm really good.I've been on prescribed meds. for 10 years too,so i just started getting longer hair in the past year because I've been taking my hair vitamins daily.
