Cold rinse

I've heard of other curlies rinsing their hair with cold water (as cold as they can stand) because it seals the cuticle and makes hair shiny. Well, it does make my hair look really shiny, but it also makes it HARD. And it's not even a crunchy-hard, it feels almost like steel wool and only goes back to being soft if I blast it with warmer water.

Does this happen to anyone else?

I'm still transitioning, so maybe it's just because I've still got a good 6 inches of super-damaged relaxed hair left (with my measly 2 inches of natural growth), or maybe my hair just doesn't like cold water?
I just want to do what I want to do when I want to do it.

It's probably the relaxer. My un natural hair gets funky.
