What do you do to get second day hair?

My hair is too short right now to pineapple at night, so when I get up my hair is a mess. I know that I cannot spray anything directly on my hair once it's dry, or it will look even worse. Can you share your 2nd day hair routine please? Maybe I will be able to try something new so I don't have to have soaking wet hair each morning!

I'm still convinced that what I put in my (soaking wet) hair right after washing makes a big difference when it comes to 2nd day hair. I almost always wash my hair in the evening, and then smooth in [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Jessicurl-Rockin-Ringlets-Styling-Potion-p-100.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=jessicurl-rockin-ringlets]Jessicurl Rockin Ringlets[/buylink] and HE Set Me Up gel. The RR seems to enhance and encourage curl for me, and the SMU has a lot of hold, which seems to hold off frizz. I use quite a bit of both, then again, I have long hair. I scrunch and do not rake my fingers through my hair. I air dry.

I have also been known to use Garnier Fructis soft curl cream (it does have dimethicone, in case you're avoiding cones) and SMU and then diffuse for about 10-15 minutes (not till totally dry but just to give a jump start and add some bounce to my curls).

For 2nd day hair, I smooth and scrunch in Jessicurl Awe Inspiralling spray. Usually if I go for another day or two, I use water and Activate conditioner, or Garnier Fructis leave in.

You can see the results with the RR in the recent pics in my hair album, and the alternate routine is in there somewhere, too:

If I want to make sure of 2nd day hair, then I load on the product. It's the only way. If your hair is loaded with product, then spraying it next day will only re-activate the gel, which works best. Typically, my 1st day hair looks too product-y because I use so much product, but if I wash at night and load on then sleep on it, I wake up, scrunch out a little crunch and I'm good to go.
    I'm a 3b, with 3c underneath.

Used to be CG, now I'm not. Using Suave Aloe & Waterlily shampoo & condish, JoiWhip, BRHG, Suave Aloe gel, Aussie Tizz No Frizz, and anything else that looks good!

On shampoo/wash day I leave in a tiny bit of conditioner, rake in some [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/CURLS-Curls-Milkshake-p-884.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=Curls-Curls-Milkshake]Milkshake[/buylink] (not much) and generously rake in Aubrey Organics Mandarin Magic jelly, all upside down. Blotting works better than plopping for me.

To sleep -- my hair is not long enough to pineapple without straightening out the curl of the outer edges, so I use 2 scuncis instead. I sleep on a silk charmeuse pillow which has signficantly reduced hairline frizz.

2nd day -- after showering covered with a plastic cap, I mix a few sprays of [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/DevaCurl-Set-it-Free-p-259.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=devacurl-set-it-free]Devacurl Set it Free[/buylink] + a dab of [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Blended-Cutie-Soft-Curls-and-Swirls-p-473.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=blended-cutie-soft-curls-swirls]Blended Cutie Soft Curls & Swirls[/buylink] in my hand and scrunch into my hair (upaide down). Draw my hair back into one scunci for 1-2 minutes only, undo, and fluff. (ETA - I do this to stretch my 4a curls a bit; you should be able to skip this step). I've done the same thing after working out to refresh hair.

ETA - it is the Set it Free that fluffs my hair back up again. It's pretty unique and I love it.

Playing with my hair is a hobby. Fluffy, fine natural 4a. Goal= Healthy, beautiful hair that retains its length.

I actually just returned a bottle of SIF to Ulta last week- I sprayed it directly on my hair (which is when I remembered my hair does not like anything sprayed into once dry) and ended up with major frizzies. And it made my hair sticky. Maybe I didn't use it right.

How do you use the 2 scuncis? I want details please! :)

I usually sleep with my hair pulled back in a scrunchie. This seems to help too. Also I use a satin pillowcase from Sally's (maybe not the highest quality, but seems to help).

Redheadedcurls, I can't use Set it Free either. It may have to do with hair type, perhaps, or just be an individual quirk. I loved the scent, but it didn't seem to prevent frizz. When I tried it, I did spray it into my hands (as many do) because when I spray anything I feel like I'm breathing it in and spraying it on my face, and my sensitive skin can't take it.

BTW, Rhc, your hair is gorgeous! I love red hair. Maybe someday I'll be brave enough to try dyeing mine.

Re the SIF it could be hair type...and it seems to give me less frizz if I mix it with a tiny bit of Blended Beauty [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Blended-Cutie-Soft-Curls-and-Swirls-p-473.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=blended-cutie-soft-curls-swirls]Soft Curls & Swirls[/buylink] in my hand and never, ever spray it directly on my hair. I posted a photo of my scunci puffs (I just threw my hair in puffs on day 3, today, to shoot) and the entire 2nd day routine:

The reason I scunci is not only to keep hair detangled but also my hair will shrink and mat from night sweats if left loose.

I spray a little hairspray on my hair, let it dry and put on a satin sleeping cap. I can get 2nd and 3rd day hair this way.

Thanks for the tips! I don't know if the scunci technique would work for me, although I used to try using 2 with mixed results.

Still working on my 2nd day (3rd etc.) routine. I may try that SIF again one of these days. Right now with my current routine, I like the curl enhancement I get from Jessicurl RR and AI, but frizz seems to creep up on me no matter what I do. (This was also true when I tried SIF.) Maybe some frizz is inevitable, especially when it's windy like today. But I keep hoping :)

For me, the products I use determine if I get second-day hair or not. In fact, I've only been able to get good second-day hair since I started using the Suave Anti-Frizz Cream. I always leave my hair down while I sleep and use either a silk or satin pillowcase. I actually like my second-day hair better than my first-day hair because its much more soft and natural looking.
For I know that my Redeemer lives,
    And He shall stand at last on the earth;
And after my skin is destroyed, this I know,
That in my flesh I shall see God,
Whom I shall see for myself,
And my eyes shall behold, and not another.
How my heart yearns within me!
