Aveda Flax Seed vs. B&A

If anyone has used both, which do you prefer? Also, does the Aveda gel have alcohol in it? The aveda site only lists the key ingredients. Thanks!

I've used both and like them both but I think the Aveda has more hold. I have to use a lot of both of them. The nice thing about them is that they don't seem as sticky as most gels so they seem to leave my hair less frizzy and more shiny than some others. I also like that I can add a little more when my hair is mostly dry without making a mess. The jury's still out on which is better for my shortish 3A hair.

I love the way the B&A makes my hair look and feel, but I have to use a ton and I swear half of the puddle I put in my hand drips to the shower floor when I rake it in. :? Talk about super thin consistency. I've seen a lot of ppl on here are using the aveda flax seed and loving it. I'll be out tomorrow and I'm thinking of picking up a bottle (my hubby will kill me if he knows I'm even considering buying another hair product!)

B&A has softer hold and no alcohol in it but it does have protein which for some is potentially drying
Aveda flax gel has curl enhancement from the flax and aloe in it but it does have a drying alcohol but also has more hold

Since my hair is longer and needs more hold I use the Aveda gel. They're both a thinner consistency which is easier to distribute and lighter so the hair isn't weighed down. I don't get the curl enhancement from the B&A but then not everyone likes enhancement.

I just make sure I use a leave in under the Aveda. The only time I got a little drying was without a leave in. They both rinse out really nicely

If it smells good put it in your hair, if it tastes good spit it out!

I've used B&A for many months now with great results. It is watery, but I find that makes it easier to distribute, especially in soaking wet hair. B&A gives me defined, soft, shiny curls. There is some crunch for me initially, but it easily scrunches out. (I use Kenra platinum grooming pomade to scrunch after my hair is dry.)

I just got the Aveda flax seed gel, and have used it twice. It gives me more volume than B&A, which is good on my fine hair, and probably more hold. There are two drawbacks for me, one being that there seems to be a somewhat strong alcohol smell when I first apply the gel (it dissipates, but it's strong at first), which worries me (drying, etc.). The second drawback is that I get a lot of crunch with this gel, and not as much luck scrunching it out. I think I'll use it only for very hot, humid days here in MD.

Thanks for all the feedback. I like the B&A so far and once it makes it to my hair, it is easy to rake through. I am looking for more volumn on the top, so maybe I will try the Aveda. Aaagghh, the litany of curl products that seems to be building...
