Dylan Jones on The Wright Stuff, curl hating

This morning Dylan Jones was talking to Matthew Wright about genetic screening of embryos, to eliminate breast cancer tendency. Matthew was troubled, saying "wouldn't this just lead to designer babies, why don't we just say we will get rid of the gene for curly hair, or whatever?" Dylan replied, "yes! why not! Whats so great about curly hair, come on now!" I felt very cross that he implied curly hair was something as undesirable as a genetic disease, something to wipe out in its entirety! Thanks Dylan, what about the gene for male pattern baldness? Would you advocate getting rid of that, seeing as you obviously inherited that one?

almost sounds like hitler talk...trying to create the straight-haired master race and eliminate the "inferior" curly hair. have you seen gattaca with ethan hawke and uma thurman? its a film based around the idea of genetic engineering. great film!!

I've not seen Gattaca. The whole idea of selecting physical traits for removal, apart from illness/disease ones, really oogs me out.

Oh yeh Gattaca sprung to my mind too, it is one of my fave films, but I'm an obsessed Ethan fan soooo :oops: But yes, I was wondering when I heard this comment, this of course would have to apply to the entire black race, who all have curly hair, and I wondered what Tessa Sanderson thought, sitting next to him, hearing that. Mind you, I'm not sure if its actually her hair, but she wore her hair straight all week, and I think she does all the time now, so you wonder if she truly accepts her curls.

Anyway, Shame on Dylan! :evil: May all his children marry curly people and give him beautiful curly grandkids, so that he may eat his words!!
