Can someone explain to me what it means when you say you want your hair cut in long layers? I just want to make I have the correct understanding.

Thx.

I was told by a hairdresser that long layers are when the bottom 3 inches of your hair is layered. They are not up at the top of your head. For example using your hair, the shortest piece would be at your ears. Hope that helps

That's my understanding too. I've also heard it described as layers that start below chin level.

It means there's not much distance between the longest and the shortest layers. Maybe 2 or 3 inches.
