Longshot--Anybody know Ana's (@ Devachan) routine?

I would love to know how she does her hair, which of the Deva products she uses, etc...if anybody knows, can you share? Her hair is breathtaking!

I think I remember reading once that she just leaves in all her One Condition and that's it - no Angell. When I read it, though, it was before [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/DevaCurl-BLeave-In-p-434.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=devacurl-bleavein]B'Leave-In[/buylink] and Set It Free and Devacare were around.

Thanks PixieCurl!! That really makes sense because her hair looks so soft...hmm, new experiment! Although I think my hair would not be as defined and uniform as hers is.

Well I am trying this right now (keeping the condish in and nothing else)...we'll see how it goes! It would be great if I didn't need a styler in the summer. My hair is about half way dry now and it's looking defined and pretty frizz free. I thinks it is behaving a bit more as it is getting longer.

I saw her in October and she still just uses OC and leaves it all in. She also does her hair everyday--no second day hair ever. She says she just feels cleaner that way. She doesn't care that she walks around with wet hair and never times how long it takes to dry. A very it is what it is attitude.
    She's awesome!

ETA: This does work great in the summer--I did it last year. Keep in mind though, Ana's hair is really really dry--sucks in moisture. My hair felt producty doing this.

Thank you!! This will be my second day doing it, and I bet I will feel producty after the next day or so, One C does have a tendency to build up a little on me. I'll keep you all posted on how this works for my hair, if I feel brave, maybe I'll post some pics if it turns out ok in the next few days.

The only way I have ever been able to leave all my conditioner in is to NOT use anything else -- no gel, no recoil, nuttin'. If I add any styling product with lots of co left in my hair, it turns out a limp, yucky mess.

My current AV was taken after a shower one evening. I left all the OneC in my hair, plopped for a bit, and then left it alone. I later went to bed. I'm not sure how long those curls would have lasted without any gel. I'm always too chicken to try this during the day.

The same for me -- it will be interesting to see how many days I can go without either giving up on it or no pooing :) If I can make it, I'm going to try to go til Sunday with just using One C...I do have to just rinse a bit out so that I can srunch my hair without it being all weird.

I had good luck just leaving in OC and using no other stylers for quite a while. Started doing it on my honeymoon and it worked great in the hot, humid environment and worked well when I returned home too. For 2nd day hair, I had a little spray bottle of OC and water that worked pretty well to refresh.

Eh, it hasn't been that great lately, but you're making me blush anyway

I'm actually thinking I need to go back to that old routine as summer approaches... I remember actually being consistently happy with my hair and NOT constantly thinking about the next good thing to try.

I am really curious about how she avoids getting overconditioned. My hair looks fantastic when I load in the OneC ("seaweedy," Carlos called it) . . . for a few days. Then it gets desperately overconditioned, and POOF, there she is, cotton-candy head!

I wonder that too -- too funny you mentioned seaweedy, that's exactly what my hair felt like this morning with just the condish on day 2 of my little experiement..kinda like an aha moment...aha that's what they mean by seaweedy!

Another thing on the "it-is-what-it-is" approach, we all know how much better it is when our hair is well-cut. Ana probably trims her own hair as needed, so the shape is likely always perfect. I do think that a good haircut changes what kind of products (and maybe more importantly, how much product) you need.
  • hockeymomof3hockeymomof3 Posts: 2,159Registered Users
Definitely! Makes me regret not making more time so I could get my hair cut by a Deva trained stylist when I was in Atlanta in February.

When you say she does her hair everyday, do you mean also no poo, condition or just condition everyday and no poo's once a week or something? Thanks. :D

I'm pretty sure she only uses OC--to wash and to style. I don't remember her mentioning the No-Poo.
She doesn't get over conditioned and poofy because of how dry her hair is. It really needs all the moisture it can get (Lucas who used to work there also mentioned this about her hair.)
She also says it takes her about 2 or 3 months before she likes her hair cut so she doesn't bother cutting it often.

Ana told me that she wets her hair every morning (she goes to the gym) and uses Devacurl OC only to style. I am not sure, but I am almost certain that she uses No Poo to wash. I can ask her if you want. I have to go back for highlights soon.

Thanks! That would be awesome! And, I would love to be close so I could have her do my hair...if you get a chance to ask her, that would be awesome! I am trying to grow my hair out, and her hair is so long, she must be doing something right..I know that comes from the inside out, but a good routine would help too!

I've been pretty much doing this for the past week, but using ArcAngell. I don't know why I ever stopped doing this in the first place because I was reminded how well my hair seems to like this routine. I leave in almost all of my One C, but I mix it with honey, then ArcAngell over it. I get such nice curls and it's so easy because it's just a couple of steps. :)

Okay, count me in on giving this a shot. I'm not usually one to go for new routines, but I'm tempted to try this one because
    1) Ana's hair is too long and gorgeous to resist
    2) My hair and scalp have been giving me fits lately with the weather change and I have to change my routine up a little anyways
    3) I already have(Devacare) One C, honey and [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/DevaCare-Arc-AnGell-p-567.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=devacurl-devacare-arc-angell]Arc Angell[/buylink] so I might as well use them
    and
    4) The fewer the steps the better
I'll start the new routine up sometime next week and then I'll check back in with how it's working for me. :)

Just checking in to say that I followed this routine today. So far so good! So what are you guys using to wash with?
  • JerseyCurlJerseyCurl Posts: 945Registered Users
Hi, I just wanted to make sure that I am understanding this routine.
    Ana's Routine is :
    Wet hair
    Co wash with One Condition
    Rinse
Condition and detangle with One Condition
Leave in One Condition, scrunch hair with paper towels
    Air dry or diffuse

    Co wash weekly
The rest of the steps daily

    Does this sound right?
    Thanks. :D

That sounds like the routine, except that I don't remember
her saying that she Co wash with OC. Maybe I missed that.
As of December, she told me that she just uses OC and I
thought that she also said No Poo too. I will be there for
the Memorial Day Weekend for a touchup (highlights). I'll
ask her again, unless someone gets to her first, please post.
