South Beach Diet

Ok this is my first day on the South Beach Diet. I have actually been on this diet and lost 9lbs the 1st two weeks..So here I am again learning to eat well and live a healthy life.
My main reason for this diet - Lowering my blood pressure ( I have high blood pressure) not to dread going in the dressing room to try on clothes, teaching my girls to eat the right foods while they are still young, running into my boyfriends ex' girlfriend and not wanting to hide somewhere, and mainly trying to accept the person that I am, its a struggle from day to day. So this is for myself.......When I get those cravings..........Sensations to eat...... Can't make it any longer.....I will read what I have wrote today.


So here it goes.....

I will weigh today and post how much and how my day went.

    Went to weigh myself and I weigh 211 lbs so I have a long way to go. My Goal is for now is 136lbs.. I am 5'3" so I think that will be a ideal weight for me. (If anyone has any imput about what I should weigh please let me know).
    I had a good day today, didn't have to bad of hunger attack. I have to be at work at 7am so usually can't eat so early. So I passed on breakfast.

    For lunch I had a small porkchop and egg with 2 tbsp of cheese ( I don't like eggs so have to spice it up a little) both were cooked with Pam.

    I didn't have a afternoon snack cause I am not sure yet of what all I can eat. So I am avoiding it. I drank alot of water. (it was hard cause I don't like water) But I am determined to make it.

    For Dinner I had some grilled Turkey and about a cup of rutabaga and water. I added a teaspoon of butter to it.

    I feel good about myself and controlling my hunger yeah I know its only day 1 but I made it! :D

    I started a diet 3 weeks ago, so I understand how you feel. I find the first 7 days the hardest. If you can make it that far, you're all set! Good luck!

    Dont worry too much about how much weight you have to lose. Give yourself small goals. It can be too overwhelming to think how much you have to lose to get to your end goal. Set up small goals so that you will always feel successful!!

    Good luck with South Beach! I'm not sure how that one works, so I'll have to keep reading other threads....

    Yes, I got it. I will definitely reply today. I just didn't have time before I left work, and when I get home things get very hectic. Congrats on day 1. I have a question for you? I didn't notice any vegetables in your food yesterday. What are your thoughts? Will PM you more later. What's the food plan for today? If you change or sub foods that is ok, just make sure that you write it down and that it fits into your food plan (diet).

    Curly Q Gurl, I just wanted to say congratulations on starting the SBD. I have the book, and had actually started last week. It was actually not that bad. I had tried Atkins before, and I felt so deprived. On the SBD, I don’t feel deprived at all. I actually like it. I can actually have my chocolate fix daily. After dinner, I treat myself to one Blue Bunny no sugar added (sweetened with splenda) fudgsicle (they are very good). You can actually have up to 75 calories daily of no sugar added popsicles (which blue bunny makes, again sweetened with splenda), no sugar added jello, hard candies (artificially sweetened, but high in calories, IMO), part skim mozzarella cheese sticks, and nuts (they vary in amount according to the type of nut). If you don’t already have the book, I would suggest you get it. It has tons of information in it and lots of recipes. I can’t remember much more off the top of my head. Sorry.     amerasiancurls -Thanks for the information! I am planning on getting the book tomorrow, I am between audits, & budgets so I don't have much time to get one. I can sacrifice for a few days till I get one so far I haven't wanted to binge and that's saying alot. Luckly, we get off of work tomorrow at 12 and I will get one then. I would today but I have a play to go to at the school and it will last awhile and I want to start a exercise routine. Good Luck to you too, let me know how you are doing.

    Breakfast: Sausage Pattie

    Lunch: Sausage Pattie

    Afternoon snack: 15 peanuts

    Dinner: Porkchop, 3 teaspoons peas (they tasted sweet so wasn't for sure if I should have them) 1 cup of brussel sprouts, 1/2 string beans
    Dessert: Sugar free fudge bar

    Around 8 had about 1/2 cup of cottage cheese

    Lots of water.

    Did really good this weekend, had lots going on so I wasn't able to post.
    We went out of town, my fiance's mother went into the hospital, even though we ate out every meal I still did very well.
    Today I will start back posting what I have eaten.
    So far this morning I have had a cup of coffee.

    I weighed in yesterday and lost 6lbs in 5 days. I'm doing great on this diet even though yesterday I made carmel brownies with my girls, Major temptation I might add but passed on.

    I'm glad to hear that you have been taking care of yourself, although you have been busy. Eating well is an important part of nurturing yourself, because you are taking good care of your body. I'm also happy that you know that eating out does not mean you can't be committed to your food plan. Even fast food places now many more healthy options. I'll keep checking out your journal. Congrats on your weight loss!

    I have been on SBD (mostly) for about 7 months. I have lost ~35 pounds, and just feel much better in general, especially when I am good and don't stray too far from the beach.


    One snack you can have on phase I that I loved was lettuce wraps with cilantro mayonaisse. Basically, I took a huge dark green lettuce leaf (romaine) and wrapped 1-2 slices of lunchmeat in it, with some red bell pepper slices, some onion, and some of the cilantro mayo from the book (exact recipe can be found in the book).

    I have found this support forum (link below) on prevention.com to be a godsend in terms of information and help. You should pop in and see us there when you can.

    Yesterday I had

    Breakfast
    Very Small Sausage
    Small egg
    Cup of Coffee, splenda, cream

    Lunch

    Taco Salad (1 cup of hamburgar meat, Lettuce and 1/3 cup cheese)
    Water
    Sugar Free Fudge bar

    Dinner
    Steak
    String Beans (1/2 cup)
    pinch of hamburgar meat (looked good cooked off the grill)
    Tea w/sweet -N- Low (yuck! poured it out and drank water)

    In between meals
    8 pieces of sugar free hard candy (Got to stop eating so many)

    No late night snack only a small glass of tea with splenda

    Just as a suggestion for both your health and feeling full, I would say add some more vegetables. On phase 1, I ate a large, dark green salad at least once perday. Maybe you could add some dark greens and some tomatoes to your taco salad next time to get more vegetable matter? I know it is hard, especially if you are naturally inclined to avoid vegetables (as I am). Also, I would often eat half a tomatoe with my breakfast, since I hate V-8 juice, which he recommends as a breakfast drink.

    Looks like you are doing pretty well though :)

    I just want to second what SwirlycurlyChemist said about veggies.
    I'm not on South Beach, but a diet similar. I find that I love veggies so much more now. I carry around bags of sliced green peppers, snow peas and cucumbers. (for me, they are "free foods"). Then I can munch on those whenever I'm hungry. I also eat a salad per day.
    I think eating veggies make me feel better and I start to drag a bit if I'm not eating enough veggies.
    I've eaten taco salad a few times on this diet. I load it up with onions, peppers, tomato, lettuce and whatever other veggies I have.
    I also do this with tuna salad (onion, pickles, peppers, cucumbers). It ends up being very high in veggies and very delicious!

    1/4 Cup Chick Peas
    1/2 Cup String Beans (Had Bacon, Onions in it)
    1/4 Cup Squash
    1/3 Broccoli with red peppers

    After Dinner

    Fudge Bar
    Peanuts

    Great! I enjoyed every bite. I decided to cook alot of variety last night cause I haven't really had much vegetables. I am craving Cauliflower (mash potatoes) last time I went to the Grocery Store they didn't have any frozen or fresh :roll:

    Good job Curly! I agree with everyone else. Vegetables are key! So low calorie, so filling, so good foryou, and you start to really develope a taste for them over time.

    Still doing really well on my diet - Haven't had a whole lot of time to post what all I haven eaten. I'm at day 13, Last time I weighed at Day 8 I believe I had lost 7 lbs. Will weigh in tomorrow to see how much I have lost.

    Sorry I haven't been on much, I've been really busy with work and all.

    I've done very good on the South Beach Diet, I have lost 11lbs so far. I feel pretty good too!

    Eating habits are pretty good, although I did slip up and had a piece of my daughters birthday cake, but gotten back on the saddle.

    Posting to say I've lost another 4lbs so thats 16lbs total! Every now and then I will reward myself with something sweet. Usually its been no sugar.
    Thanks to this site you guys motivated me (Especially Earthmama) into eating healthy and to lose weight. What's so good about it is Everyone has noticed that I'm losing weight.
