No poo and transitioning

I have been transitioning since November 31st and I have alot of growth, but for the most part my hair is 12" of relaxed hair. My question is this - I keep reading about "no poo" (I'm still trying to figure out 100% what this means) and I'm not sure if this is something I should be doing even though my hair is in transition. Is this something you should only do if you've got 100% natural hair. Please let me know! :D

No poo means you don't use shampoo. You wash with water and/or certain types of conditioners.

A modified no poo means you can use shampoos that don't contain sulfates. Or maybe you just very occasionally use sulfate shampoos.

But to do either of these, you need to understand what products you have to avaoid (you need to avoid nonwater soluable ingredients) -- cones, dimethiconol, mineral oil, petroleum, petraltum, waxes, parrafin, etc. you can use cones that are PEG or copolyol modified.

If you're interested in the no poo (or CG routine) you should read Curly Girl by Lorraine Massey and puruse the no poo forum.

Yes, I believe the CG/no poo routine would work well for someone who is transitionng. The gist of it is that it is much more gentle on your hair and scalp. But like anything, you have to find the right routine and products.

I'm so glad you posted this question. I just ordered the Curly Girl book today ... I was trying to figure out the "No poo" references.

Question though ... My hair looks flat and uneven if I don't wet it everyday. I had been shampooing and conditioning it every day ... So the no shampoo - does that mean I can still wet it and use conditioner every day?

Doesn't it make your hair look flat and greasy after awhile?

Lots of questions ... I'm new to this !!
Type: 3a fine & dense, with normal porosity, terrible product junkie
ROUTINE: LI, enhancer, gel, plop with Curlease towel, serum product (either CIAB or Gel-les'c), clip & diffuse.
Too many favourite products to list ... I finally have my routine that works and alot of products to choose from. My product stash is huge, but well loved !!!
