Judge a Product by Its Ingredients, Not Its Name. Week of February 4

For those of you who are new: I will list the ingredients of two products along with some questions.  Your job is to answer those questions based on just the ingredients.    Please share any other observations you might have or some of your reasoning.  It helps us all learn to read ingredients better

I am repeating last week's theme, but I think it will be tricker this time.  One is a conditioner and one is a curl cream. One is also a drugstore and one is a high end. Can you tell what?

Product A
Water, Cetearyl Alcohol, Behentrimonium Methosulfate, Vegetable Glycerin, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil, Panthenol, Cucurbita Pepo (Pumpkin Seed) Oil, Melissa Officinalis (Melissa) Leaf Extract, Urtica Dioica (Nettle) Leaf Extract, Piperita (Peppermint) Leaf Extract, Equisetum Arvense (Horsetail) Leaf Extract, Yucca Leaf Extract, Keratin Amino Acids, Polyquaternium-7, Lecithin, Fragrance, Phenoxyethanol, Caprylyl Glycol

Product B
Deionized water, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea butter)*, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) oil*, Macadamia Ternifolia Seed Oil, Mangifera Indica (Mango) Seed Butter*, Persea Gratissima (Avocado) Oil, Vegetable Glycerin, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract, Silk Protein, Ammonium Salt, Melia Azadirachta (Neem) Seed Oil, Daucus Carota Sativa (Carrot) Seed Oil, Sorbitol Esters, Panthenol (Pro-Vitamin B-5), Caprylyl Glycol, Essential Oil Blend, Lonicera Caprifolium (Honeysuckle) Flower, Lonicera Japonica (Japanese Honeysuckle) Flower Extract, Tocopherol (Vitamin E), Hibiscus Flower Extract

Questions
1. Which one is the curl cream and which one is the conditioner?
2. Which is the drug store which is the high end?
3. Any other observations?

This one is indeed harder! I would have said that both were conditioners. I don't know why one would be a curl cream just based on the ingredients. I don't see anything with hold.

    1. I'm voting for product B being the conditioner. The ingredients are quite rich and would be awfully heavy for something you would leave in your hair.

    2. I'm voting for product B being high-end. It looks like it has more-expensive ingredients than product A. Essential oils in particular are usually quite expensive.

I don't see any ingredients for hold in either one.  I'll say A is the conditioner, because it contains Behentrimonium Methosulfate, which is used for slip.  I can't tell which is drug store and which is high end.

    Hm, tricky.
Product A is the curl cream, and B is the conitioner. Reasoning being the Polyquat in A and glycerin higher on the list (glycerin comment is pure guessing and has no scientific backing at all. Haha).
Product A is drugstore and B is high end. B has silk protein which sounds all fancy pants.
Other observations are I think I might be wrong on all accounts. Haha.

Wrong on all accounts. Also this proves that Shea Moisture did change their ingredients. The enhancing smoothie has glycerin as second ingredient now... I think.

Yeah the one with glycerin as number 2 is awful imo, the one sans glycerin high up is infinitely better and arguably lighter.

Interesting. I wish I had the original formula. SM swears they didn't change it. I get good curl definition but I cant use too much of it.

Just checked. Glycerin is the second ingredient on mine, purchased at Ulta. I checked Ulta site and it has original ingredients listed too. I really wish Shea Moisture wouldn’t have changed them then mislead people.
and Tink, this was a great exercise. I’m just lamenting SM’s ingredient change. Edit so I don’t come across as a [redacted], the wrong on all accounts was about my guessing which was 100% wrong. Haha.
