This week's episode is brought to you by @BrittanyM!  (I don't know the answer either so I am going to play along :) )

For those of you who are new: I will list the ingredients of two products along with some questions.  Your job is to answer those questions based on just the ingredients.    BrittanyM will reveal what the two products are on Friday!

These are non-CG products.  Both are marketed to purify and leave hair soft and shiny  One is high end and drugstore.  Can you tell?

  3. Which is more moisturizing/less harsh?
  4. Any other thoughts on these products?

I think these are both shampoos.  I think product A is the high end one and B is the drug store one.

Interesting that they both have tea tree oil, and one has menthol and the other has peppermint.  I wonder why tea tree oil is always paired with something minty.  I have two cleansers myself that have tea tree/minty combos.

Product A reminds me of Joico, but I'm not certain of that.  And Product B seems like one of those brands that touts itself as "natural" but isn't really.  Possibly OGX, but maybe not.

I can't say which is harsher.  They both contain a harsh sulfate, but they also contain multiple silicones and polyquats which will mask the harshness.  I wouldn't say either one would be moisturizing.

Interesting observation on the essential oils.  I did some searching.  Tea tree oil is commonly used for dandruff while peppermint oil helps with itchy scalp.  If both are in fact true (I've become a skeptic!), it makes sense that they are paired together!

    1. I'm going to vote for product B as drugstore based on the fact that the fragrance is so high up on the ingredients list. I'm not confident about this, though!

    2. These are both shampoos.

    3. I'm going to vote for product A as less harsh because product B has two sulfates up top.

    4. I agree with @Guide 65 that product B looks like a pseudo-natural product. There are a lot of herbal extracts in it, but they all fall below fragrance on the ingredients list, which makes me wonder how much of the "good stuff" is in there.

    1. I think Product B is the drugstore brand and Product A is the high end one.
    2. I think these are both shampoos.
    3. I think Product B is more moisturizing
    4. I agree with the consensus that Product B seems to be pseudo natural. Product A, even though I think it's the high end one, really doesn't have anything in it to moisturize which makes me think it's more of a clarifying shampoo.

So this one was a hard one. Both are obviously shampoos and not CG. I did it somewhat on purpose. I wanted to show that high end brands can be just as bad if not worse than drugstore.
Product A is OGX hydrating teatree mint shampoo at 61 cents per oz.
Product B is Paul Mitchell Tea Tree Special Shampoo at $1.38 per oz.
I tried the Paul Mitchell on recommendation from my hairdresser who raved about it. It claims to be gentle. I tried it even with the one silicone as a clarifying shampoo. Let me tell you, it is most definitely not gentle. So for a high end brand, this shampoo is terrible. I like the tingle and that is it.
Other CG tea tree shampoo options are:
Trader Joes Tea Tree Tingle  (CG friendly from ingredient list I found) and 76 cents per oz on Amazon
Eden Bodyworks Peppermint Tea Tree Shampoo at $1 an ounce.

Wow, that was a good one!  After last week's comments, I noticed product B had the perfume right up at the top and figured that was a cheaper drug store product.  I guess even the salon brands do that.

Huh, interesting. I didn't even notice that. I think the Paul Mitchell is cheaply made with just a high end brand name.
