Newbie and wondering...is CG worth it for a 2A pixie?

Hello everyone, I'm new here.
I cut my hair into a short pixie back in June because I was tired of dealing with helmet hair on top, poofy-frizzy-tangly-untameable hair on the bottom half and pixies always "tamed" it so to speak (at least until it grew again).
A little less than a month ago, I came across someone who had the exact same hair woes as long haired me and someone told her these were classic wavy hair problems and to try CG.
Well, I've been trying it on my short hair with mixed results.
This was what I consider my best day, it lasted all day too:
(sorry for terrible quality)
All I remember from that day was cowashing with Suave Essentials (Sea breeze), S2C with the same, squishing dry with a t-shirt, putting a thin headband on and letting it air dry for a little over 10 minutes while I did skincare, then adding the herbal essences toussled mousse upside down. I replaced the headband and then I used a jaw clip to sort of do a medusa clip/makeshift plopping. I left that on before an hour, then took it off when I went to bed.

I've tried to replicate it every since with ZERO luck. I don't know if I clipped it a really specific way that day or what. But when I try it now, I end up with very stringy waves:
they also fall out by the end of the day.

I've tried adding moptop curly custard, both with and without the herbal essences and it doesn't make a difference. The closest I've gotten to this again was after using a gelatin mask:
but even these fell out by 3pm.
I've tried clarifying, redoing gelatin masks, deep conditioning, diffusing. All of these seem to make negligible differences.

I'm starting to wonder, is it even worth it to try and do CG while my hair is this short? I'm not trying to turn my 2A's into a type they're not, I just want my hair to be visibly wavy. It's been pretty much impossible to find anything for 2As with super short hair so I'm wandering in the dark here.
Should i just wait until it's longer? I have a consultation next wednesday with a curly specific stylist because I need to neaten up my pixie but I'm not sure if it needs to be done by a specialist or if they'd know of a way to bring them out. She said we could come up with a long term plan for my hair together based on what she sees. I'm almost afraid I'll get laughed out of there for the hair I have now, especially since I've seen what it can do.

Also, for reference, here are photos of my longer hair from the few times when it wasn't straightened or tied back.

Any help is appreciated!!

Welcome!  I like the look of the gelatin mask, but it's probably not something you'd want to do all the time.

Are you leaving conditioner in your hair after the S2C?  Normally we do leave some in (or use a separate leave in conditioner) but I think with your short hair, it might be best to rinse it all out.

And then you might want to switch out the mousse for a hard hold gel.  Mousse won't give you any "hold", which is what you need for your waves to last all day.  I'll suggest getting Beyond the Zone Bada Bing gel (from Sally's).  It has lots of protein like the gelatin, and it has very hard hold.  Apply it to very wet hair - I do it right in the shower, before I use my hair towel.  Squish it in, then use your towel/t-shirt to squish the excess water out, style your hair the way you want, then don't touch at all until it's dry.  After that, it'll be crunchy and stiff, so squish your hair some more until it's soft and not crunchy.

Hopefully that'll keep your waves going all day!

I do try and rinse it all out! Sometimes it’s difficult though because it feels like rinsing it all out causes the clumps to separate, even if I rinsed using S2C.

I’ve been afraid of using a harder hold gel since all I hear is “lighter products!!”  I recently ordered a sample of the Jessicurl Spiralicious. Is that as hard a hold as the beyond the zone? Either way, I’ll definitely make a trip over to Sally’s soon.

    Thank you for your help!!

I know, I made the same mistake when I was first starting!  My hair is so fine, I know I need light products, so I started with a light gel.  But the thing is, a light gel only refers to the amount of hold.  The texture is the same as a hard hold gel - neither one will weigh the hair down any more than the other.  So for hair that curls no matter what you do - they could use a light hold gel, because their hair doesn't need much help holding up.  But for fine hair wavies, a hard hold gel is better because our hair is so easily straightened out.

Jessicurl Spiralicious is a good hard hold gel!  Give it a try first and see how you like it.  It's different than the bada bing gel.  BBG is clear and sticky, Spiralicious is a little creamier, like a cream/gel hybrid.

Hard hold doesn't necessarily mean heavy. If you get a gel cast, just gently scrunch it out. There's definitely a benefit to CG for all curl lengths. If choose to do CG, your hair should be healthy as it grows out.
