Can one hooded dryer session or one instance of a product damage your hair?

Hi all!

I got my hair cut two days ago by a curly specialist. I was so excited, but alas -- I went in with wonderful (albeit crazy) curls and came out with straw-like hair and straight frizzy ends. For the life of me, I can't figure it out. Did I react poorly to her Devacurl products? Or could it be the fact that I sat under a hooded dryer for 15 minutes?

It's a bummer, because this woman is famous for transforming her clients into amazing curly girls. Her IG photos are outstanding. I had hoped to leave with more controlled curls (and maybe more ringlets, since supposedly good shaping will let your curls live their best curl lives). Instead, my hair looks so bad and the curl is largely gone. Usually after a cut, my hair looks refreshed, bouncy, and happy.

Has anyone experienced an immediate and prolonged reaction to products or heat? And what did you do to counteract it?

Thanks!!

Do you normally use Deva products?  If you don't, then I'm more inclined to think it's a reaction to the products than the dryer.  Deva has a lot of protein, so if your hair doesn't like protein it can turn dry and straw-like if you use too much.  Try doing a deep conditioning treatment to increase the moisture level.  It should come back to normal in a few days.

Thank you! No, I don't normally use Deva products. I wasn't sure if my hair could have such an instantaneous reaction to a product, but maybe so.

I've never really deep conditioned, but I'll research and try that.
