Rainbow clipping

So I just wanted to share something I discovered on YouTube recently, which is “rainbow clipping” for wavy hair.  It helps to keep the crown from going flat.  Link here:

I tried it today and I think it worked really well!  I used a lightweight mousse today instead of gel, which is think helped me to achieve more volume but also more frizz!  Still, I am pleased overall.  My hair is 2B and thick but also fine, and gets weighed down easily.

Clipping helps a lot!  I use tons of clips all over the top of my head, otherwise I'd have no volume at all.

Interesting technique! And both of those women had gorgeous hair.

Great video! I will have to try this.

I get really frustrated when I see wavy-hair tutorials for fine-haired wavies, and their hair is NOT fine but medium width. This video actually had someone with hair that is truly fine.

Thanks for sharing! I'll have to try that as I only just do the roots right now.

I finally watched this this weekend.  I've already been doing the rainbow clipping, but the way she clipped up around the part line was new to me.  So I tried it yesterday and I really liked how it came out!  I got so much volume up there!  I'll definitely be doing that more!

I have thick hair--and yet it was very useful to see how the clipping was done. Those new Deva clips--much larger than the usual 2-prong clips you can buy at Sally's-- are very sturdy, helpful and a fave of mine.

I just got some clips to try them out. I'm definitely going to try this out when I get brave enough 😁 and have enough time, lol

I've tried this a couple of times now, and I got good results both times. I've always had problems diffusing upside down, because it does weird things to my roots. Clipping and diffusing the clipped areas first eliminates the wonky roots. And removing the clips before the final diffusing helps eliminate indentation marks in my hair. Great video.
