Is it true that too much protein can make your curls limp and not hold their shape?

I don't remember where I heard that, but I do notice my curls are more defined when I use protein. But I also notice my curls don't bounce back when they're combed through while wet.

    Limp hair that won't hold a curl could be a sign of either too much or too little protein.  My curls don't bounce back after combing either.  That's one of the reasons we discourage combing and brushing.
