Routine for 2c low porosity

hello!
i need help!
my hair is 2c, low porosity and I colour it so it is VERY dry. I use deva curl no poo & one condition. Shea moisture low porosity detangler leave in and deva curl ultra defining gel. Once a week I use melt into moisture, leaving on for at least an hour and applying heat to open up hair cuticle.
I use a diffuser to dry my hair because otherwise it would take 8 hours to dry.
My hair still feels so dry and crispy.
Can anyone suggest a routine and products (preferably those availible in Canada) that might help me!?

    Beautiful hair!

The most moisturizing conditioner I've ever used is Innersense Color Radiance.  I think they have one more that's even more moisturizing.  You can order it from Curly Hair Goodies - https://www.curlyhairgoodies.com/  I think it's in Ontario.  Or also the Curl Bar has it - https://www.curlbar.ca/  They're in Toronto.

Innersense is expensive, but it's amazingly moisturizing and uses really good quality ingredients.  You could also try the Quiet Calm Curl Control underneath your gel.

Do you think your hair might be protein sensitive? Hair that is dry and crispy despite attempts to deep condition can sometimes be protein sensitive, especially if it is low porosity. I would recommend deep conditioning with a protein-free conditioner and removing all protein-containing products from your regimen for a couple of weeks to see if that improves things.

Also, some people's hair does not like shea butter. It makes their hair feel dry.

I 2nd the possibility that your hair might be protein sensitive, but none of those products have protein.  My hair reacts to coconut the way it reacts to protein, which is what you are describing, dry and crispy.

I suggest stopping using melt into moisture, which has coconut, and see what happens.  Before you go out and buy a new deep condition, while you are "testing", make your own deep condition by mixing your devacurl one with a moisturizing oil, preferably a lightweight one, along with heat.    If your hair is feeling better, then it was likely the coconut.  I really like DevaCurl's Heaven In Hair deep condition which is coconut and protein free.

    good luck!

@tinksaysboo, the Deva Ultra Defining Gel has a lot of protein (at least according to the Deva website), and the other Deva products (I think) all have hops extract, which can act like a protein on the hair. So protein sensitivity could still be an issue.

You are right that coconut may be an issue too.

Hrm, i was under the impression their "standard" line was protein free.  Sorry for spreading bad information.

I just did an ingredient check.  Deva Ultra Defining Gel does have a lot of protein.  No Poo just has Wheat Amino Acids. One Condition Original is protein free.

    Sorry again!
