What Do You Do For Fun?

LotsawavesLotsawaves Registered Users Posts: 9,777 Curl Virtuoso
I get asked this question & I really don't know how to answer it.  I really don't have any hobbies or talents.  I don't play sports, run, jog, hike, etc.  I may occasionally have lunch with a friend. I feel so uninteresting & not really living my life to its full potential.
From Michael Berg:

Every person has a unique connection to the Creator that can never be extinguished, and every person has a great soul that can manifest important things in our world. To make a person feel less than they are because of something inside themselves, be it faith, race, or sexual orientation, is the greatest sin of all."

I've never thought of you as uninteresting!!!
Maybe answer with "I enjoy ...."  You enjoy blah blah blah - does that help?  For example just from your response you enjoy your friendships, and delicious food.  I'll bet there are many other areas of enjoyment.  Whatever you spend time doing that isn't a chore is usually something you enjoy.  I hope that gives you ideas.
P.S.  I enjoy your posts here on curltalk :)

I'm with cp here - I enjoy your posts and perceive you as having an interesting life! Strange how we often don't see ourselves as others see us.
I like walking, riding my bike (though this doesn't happen often!) gardening, knitting, sewing, baking. Not exactly earth shattering stuff but it keeps me out of mischief. I sound like a boring old fart when people ask me that question!

Thanks ladies for thinking I'm interesting. :)  There are things I am interested in and somewhat enjoy doing them, but I'm not sure I'm really having fun.  I don't feel that reading a book or knitting or gardening, etc are fun.  They are just enjoyable or relaxing.
I have a friend who has fun playing golf.  Another who takes dance lessons.  Another who plays tennis.  One who paints & another who travels a lot. I have a friend in California who loves to host dinners & parties.  Another one in Texas who loves to play poker. A friend's husband loves to bowl.  He is on a league.  My ex-boss plays the drums & goes on road trips on his motorcycle. I don't do anything for fun.

Haha. I have trouble answering this question too. Truthfully, I'm a really big video gamer. I consider it to be my main hobby, but with being a female and not looking the "part" and the social context around video games, I just keep that info to myself. I always say that I read which is true but it's not something I do as much as I did. I also like to cook but am far from a chef. I understand your pain on this question. I consider myself to be quite boring. I enjoy seeing your posts and reading/watching any content you share here from other sites (the time traveler video from a little while ago).

Thanks, BrittanyM.  I'm glad you liked the video.
I feel I should have a passion in life, especially at my age.  I may not be a boring person to be around, but I do live a pretty boring life.

I feel the exact same way and I know this is one of the first questions you get asked while dating. I tell people I enjoy spending time with friends, discovering new restaurants in the city, doing some of the touristy things since I'm still a bit new, traveling (which most people like too), going to the beach, watching and attending games (baseball, basketball, football).

But I don't consider these hobbies as you said. I have friends that are in biking groups, go hiking, do photography, etc. I know I am a bit boring, i'm ok with it.

My first go to is watch movies.  Donna and I are junkies.  More than that I really enjoy Disc Golf.  It's inexpensive and decent low impact movement.  Regular golf is too expensive to me and requires more time to get even decent at.  Throwing a "frisbee" at a basket 300 ft away in the woods and in a park are just more my style anyways.
I love to cook but I also tire of it when I'm making the same things for the same 1 or 2 people.
I sing but finding venues that are simple and convenient isn't the easiest.  I am in a garage band that we have no false hopes of doing anything more than just jamming.

GuardianB, I would love to hear your band & you sing.
Next week & am starting Barre & Pilate classes.  Will move up to the weight workout room.  I am also looking into dance lessons.  I love rock & roll, but I, personally, find the older crowd dancing to that music a little pathetic.  I am going to take country lessons.  There is a place very close by me & the lessons are free or very minimal.  All ages dance there & it isn't much of a pick up place.  The food is also good.  I'm really working on finding some interests that I can enjoy & feel better about myself.

I try to have a loose definition of fun, lol. Basically I think of things I find enjoying or engaging. I run, I am a beekeeper and co-keep a couple hives, I knit, I volunteer for a youth crisis/suicide prevention line...maybe these aren't always "fun" but they're what I do when I'm not working!  And I get enjoyment and fulfillment from them.

Barre and Pilates will probably be interesting and a good workout!

hiking, creative writing, reading, singing, dancing, cooking, netflix, concerts & going to museums. Honestly I am very much a homebody, which doesn't bode well for dating. I'm pretty sure my hobbies have turned some potential suitors off because they are solitary for the most part. I grew up as a only child so I'm used to alone time. Once in a while I'll go to a car show or take a road-trip.

@Lotsawaves, yes I would say my life is fulfilling. I am very lucky. Though, I don't have many close friends and wish I had a confidante in the same city as me. I am lucky to have a wonderful partner, and could use a good friend as well.  I just don't like most people so it's my own damn fault   :D

How did your Pilates and barre class go?

Haven't made it to the classes yet.  Since starting the Keto diet I have had the keto flu which for me has been excessive fatigue, bloating & constipation.  Since starting the Magnesium Chloride I am feeling much better today.  I can't believe how much weight I have lost in 2 months.  I wasn't that heavy when I started.  I just wasn't at a weight where I felt comfortable & didn't like how I looked in my tighter fitting clothes.  I'm now almost too thin & still loosing.  I need to start upping my calories especially since I will be burning more when I start the classes. I have an appointment on Monday to start my Brazillian lasering & another on Tuesday for a follow up for the neck lift I had a year ago.  Hopefully, I will get my flabby butt to the classes later next week.  LOL!.

Good for you! I used to volunteer at my area's suicide hotline, too!

I'm an only child, too and most of my hobbies are solitary ones, as well. Right, not great for dating or meeting ppl to date!

I have really busy school-age kids. So basically, I'm their fan club and chauffeur, maid, party hostess, chef, tutor, guidance counselor...all of that. I don't get much time to enjoy my long term hobbies (sewing, drawing, painting, working out, travelling) or new ones I'm interested in trying (gardening/landscaping, wine making, sculpting) or the business ventures I'm interested in launching. It's frustrating bc I'm a person who really benefits from engaging in hobbies. And it's frustrating when I'm trying to connect w/ men to date (who have plenty of free time) and the only things they can list as hobbies are: "going to the casino" and "spending time w/ friends." See, I think this is how a lot of relationships run into trouble.......

@spiderlashes5000, I wouldn’t be so hard on them or discount them on this alone. I blank on this question and seem like a boring person. I think a lot of people have trouble answering this question. You could always invite them to do one of your hobbies with them if you actually liked them enough to continue to see them. Just a thought. I admire your volunteering with suicide hotlines. I wouldn’t be cut out for that, so I am glad there are people like you who are.

I can have fun doing most anything. It doesn't have to be interesting and it doesn't have to be a hobby (I really don't have any hobbies). Going for a hike, sitting at the beach, grocery shopping, watching a silly movie, sitting at a bar eating chicken wings, people watching from my porch, going for a ride, get togethers with my sisters and cousins, and I always have fun cooking.
