Losing moisture or too much? How to retain moisture?

I thought I got my wash n gos pretty figured out because my curls felt moisturized and the definition was great but lately after a day or two my curls feel greasy and shrink in width but not length, when i spray them with water/ add more product some puff  back up and some don't. When it dries after I do that it just looks frizzy and i lose definition again.I do the pineapple method but am I adding too much product when doing a wash n go? Also with these failed attempts I usually turn them into a bun but im not sure how to properly moisture my hair for it to be in a bun for a few days. Im never sure if ive moisturized too much or too little cause after like a day it  always feels dry again.

It may or may not be. Some find that sulfate free shampoos do not remove all the build up. I do a monthly sulfate cleanse to avoid product build up. Don't throw out your sulfate free shampoo but Alternate occasionally with a stronger cleanse. Another thing I would add is do try using less products. Some of my Cantu products have mineral oil which may make your hair greasy or even contribute to build up.

Yes, I would use a sulfate shampoo. Just make sure it has no silicones in it.

A sulfate-free cleanser is great most of the time, but every now and then, a clarifying shampoo needs to be done, because products build up on the hair. Even Curly Girl-approved products build up on the hair.

You could also use Kinky-Curly Come Clean for clarifying, which has C14-16 olefin sulfonate, which acts like a sulfate.

What is your hair type? It is hard to know whether it is too much/too little product without understanding what hair texture you have and the wash and go products you are using. However, have you tried a clarifying shampoo? Your hair may be suffering from buildup.

I would definitely try clarifying, as @Curledvines suggested.

Another possibility is that you need some protein. When my hair won't hold its curl and feels mushy, it's usually a sign that protein is required.
